Am I doong something wrong? I always check the trays but never have found anything? Its the little opening right in the front of the machine right?

Check all around the machine. The reject slot is the best, but not the only bet. I've found coins on the floor and on the shelf on top. Never have found anything on top of the machine, but I glance at it just in case someone left a bag with a single coin in it, or something.

Found a 1947p dime today. First silver find in several months.

Vending machines are notorious for having pennies on top of the machine. People discard them there after looking for change to put in the machine.

Just curious here.. but has anyone wondered about ... instead of checking in and all around the machine... what it would take to outright purchase and place a machine.... imagine all the coins you could go through then!

A friend of mine is really big into paper money and 10 years back when there were a lot of private ATM's he purchased a few and found some good locations.... so he got to look through bricks of $$ given from the bank to restock his machines AND he got paid .30 - 1.00 on his machines.. he loved it!

Two days in a row after some dry months.

Today a 1949p cent, and three Canadian quarters 1999, 2005, and 2006.

As an aside, my wife told me recently the queen was unhappy an older view of her was being used on currency and coinage. I noted that the 1999 had a thinner and younger looking Elizabeth II than the other two.

The current effigy first saw use in 2003 and, to my knowledge, is used in no other country. Everyone else uses the IRB bust (I don't know what to really call it).

I went to the store today and a woman was dumping a huge bucket of coins into the Coinstar. She kept getting a handful back in the reject tray and kept feeding them back into the machine. I was trying to finish up my shopping so I could go see what she had and maybe offer to give her money for it, but she ended up dumping the rejects into her purse and left when she was finished at the machine. I decided to go look at it anyway just to be sure something didn't get left behind. After a long drought at the Coinstar machine, I found a 2011 Canadian dime she apparently missed.

- You get that itchy feeling, don't you?

It's a tug of war between greed and not wanting to look like a masher or some kind of bum. I dawdled around during my checkout a couple of weeks ago waiting for someone to finish up on the machine, but they out-delayed me and I finally left the store. (Two dogs waiting in the car for me.) But that was a terrible feeling.

I found a 2000D dime and a flat battery the size of a nickel yesterday. Maybe whoever was cleaning out the machine I look at has been on vacation the last two weeks.

I dumped some change at a TD Bank machine after work today among my finds were 10 silver dimes (1951, 1952d, 1953, 1959, 1960d x2, 1961d, and 1964 x2) in the reject slot. I needed the 1951 and 1961d for my found in circulation silver roosevelt set (i now have 29 of the 48 coins in the business strike set). I also found three silver quarters ( a 1964, a 1960d, and a 1942) about $1.20 in canadian money and some other assorted junk foriegn base metal coins. The biggest silver find I've had in months lol
