As of 6:30pm (US-EST) 10/24/12, APMEX & Provident will both put you into a 2012 Ag Brit for under $38, but then there's the ever-present shipping, which badly sours the deal...UNLESS...you're buying some other stuff and you just tack this one onto the order, so the shipping gets spread out and doesn't hurt so bad. I may start loading the cheaper (ha,ha!!), common year Brits into orders when I'm getting other stuff. That seems to be the best way to go that I've yet figured out, although I'd really like to have a better, less costly game plan. Just for laughs, I priced out grabbing the entire 1998 through 2012 set (bullion only, at full retail) and it came to a bit over $1200 for the 15 coins, not including shipping. After completing the calculation, I didn't find myself laughing...

We are still awaiting information about the design of the 2013 silver Britannia which will have the tradional .958 composition and we suspect coin which will be available in April of 2013 will have an issue limit.
If they don't do a different design, how will anyone known which is the .999 silver one and which is the .958 silver one?
In the UK, we also have to pay VAT on these silver coins at a rate of 20%.

kena - I'm planning a two month Scotland/England/Wales/Ireland bicycle touring vacation for next year. Part of the plan was going to be picking up a few Britannias at local coin shops while bicycling all over the islands. Your mention of a 20% VAT just killed that idea. Wow! That's awful. Paying that and then coming home to get beat up all over again by US Customs & NY State Use Tax (a Sales Tax applicable when you buy something while out of state) is out of the question. I guess the prices we pay for Britannias over here may not be the end of the world after all.
Do they sell Britannias in the airport duty-free shops along w/ the booze?

I have need the 2013 .999 coin on sale for £32.95 without shipping. Exchange rate last I looked was $1.60, so that works out to around $52.72. Without VAT, the coin would cost around $43.94. Not sure about reclaiming VAT, since it looks difficult and complex - http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/sectors/...visitors.htm and there are limits of bullion over 125g, 2.75 troy ounces or ten Tolas. Never seen much of interest in the duy free shops unless you like booze, cigs, or perfume. Ken

Last week I picked up my first Britannia. NICE coin. A 2012 for $6 over spot, no tax, no shipping as I got it at a coin shop. (I live in PA, so no tax on coins at all.)
I feel sorry for the Brits that have that darn VAT on their own bullion.
At the risk of sounding politial, watch out for US politicians peddling a VAT tax in any form, fellow Americans!

I love this series as much as any, but have a hard time getting myself to invest in them in large group sets....
I realize they are a hefty premium beyond spot, especially the gilded versions and I know I can get this back in re-sale....
But never the less I have a real hard time lately buying 10 oz. of silver for one set price, if I know I can get 20 elsewhere for same amount of cash. Meaning I am shooting more for numbers these days verses quality perhaps....

The premium on the Brits is definitely unpalatable - no two ways about that. I've been collecting the bullion issues (no proofs, gilded or colorized versions), and the only one I have left to get is 2013. Doing the bullion issues cost 1.5x the price of an equivalent # of ASEs. I don't even need to research collecting the proof and gilded versions, because I already know that would cost FAR more than any amount of money I'd ever be willing to commit to the project.
I'm just a little league ASE/CSM/Phil/Lib/10oz bar stacker so the Brit premiums were painful for me, but at least the pain only lasted for a set of 15 1oz coins and the annual booster shot is only a single 1oz coin.
I don't know why, but I had "gotten the bug" and I just HAD to assemble a complete set of something pretty. Now that I've done that, I'm hoping the fever has passed (?) so I can go back to stacking my low-premium, Plain Jane bullion in peace...

Somebody did well last night. A complete 1998-2012 set of bullion Britannias sold for $722 on ebay. Average cost=$48.13 per coin; $8 for delivery. I've only been watching for a few months, but this is the best Brittania deal I've seen. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-2012-U...p=true&rt=nc
