Ive been seeing a lot of mention of how evil PVC is and yet I had just prior to seeing all of this bought about 200 "Archival Safe" BCW currency holders in both regular and large.

They both list as 'Semi-Rigid' PVC. But it says archival safe so I cant tell if they some how made the PVC safe or BCW is just 'advertising' the archival safe and they really arent.

Btw, I've caught them on errors before in this listings. There was one where the holder was listed to hold a certain type of MTG card and it was listed as 1/8th too short in the description. Turned out it was the right size but someone typed it in wrong.

But these however are on the package so I assume they really do have PVC in them which makes me wary.

Do I have to get all new holders for my 150+ notes? Or is it not really as big a deal with notes?

What do you guys use then?

I am guessing I'll have to replace them like I had to replace the flips that had PVC and I didnt know at the time it was bad but I figured I would ask anyway or at least ask for what you guys use in stead.

For my uses I like to use holders that are larger then standard US notes. (I like the large currency holders because they hold nearly everything foreign and domestic that I come across and I have room for a note or two about the item without having to cover anything.)

What exactly does the PVC do to currency? I have about 50 or so 2$ bills that are basically junk but I find it amusing to keep them in holders anyway. Maybe I'll just use the PVC ones on them unless its gunna like eat through the paper or something lol.

Thanks!

PVC will, over time, outgas chlorine and the amount of chlorine outgassed by PVC exposure *will* affect paper by bleaching it and messing with inks. It's simply not nearly as fast as what happens with reactive metals like copper or silver.

I'd recommend something more inert.
