LaureateBust Valued Member Canada 331 Posts	Posted 09/25/2012 12:24 pm Most manufacturers store the absolute number of shutter actuations in a common EXIF metadata tag. I use a cross-platform EXIF parser like: http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ To be honest, even though I use a 7D, I haven't gone looking for a shutter count yet. When I do, I'll check the EXIF data of the most recent photo. In linux (exiftool v8.48) this value is returned as "Shutter Count". This technique should work across all makes and models of digital camera. Exiftool also handles maker-specific EXIF tags that general image processing software sometimes don't have access to.
