Does not look like a fake ike to me at all. I've seen a few fakes and there usually a weak strike. Nothing seems off on the ike picture you posted

I don't think it is fake, Silverdollar you have some odd "everything is fake" paranoia going on man. My stars let it go before you drive yourself nuts....

I could send you a totally legit 1 oz. gold pamp bar, and TEN bucks says by nights end you would have it opened up scratching it on a stone, lol....

Hawk, you totally got me laughing out loud with that one. He does seem to have a bit of a bad streak with the "fake silver" though I did think his bars were pretty suspicious.

Steve is a pretty good fake authenticator, how about sending them to him for confirmation?

Sorry, that was an error on behalf of my scale failing to tare 0, it weighs 0.28g less at 24.42g but that's still pretty significant much?

I would say no, 24.42 grams is within tolerance for a 40% silver Ike. Standard (clad) Ikes weigh in at 22.7 grams.

Your 1976-S 40% silver Ike looks good to me. You can't do an accurate ring test on 40% silver, the "smell" means nothing, and the weight and appearance look fine.

Its also possible that the packaging from the plastic inert and the cardboard holder cause the smell now come to think of it.

What about a tissue test on a 40% silver coin, how does it compare to a 90% silver coin? I haven't try it yet, so this maybe a good experiment.

sorry, guys but I still don't buy it.
the coins smell just like nail polish remover but more condensed and concentrated. The only reason why I posted this was to warn you guys that there are fake silver general circulation coins out there. To those who have listened and who will become more cautious when buying silver in the near future, good for you. It's really not my money lol but your hard earnt money (silver can really add up to be exorbitant), like I said I received both sets for FREE in addition to the Chinese Coin Book (I really like it and think its perfect for me).
Finding fake 40% silver pieces shocked me which led to me creating a post about it in this forum.
As to my silver experience, I consider myself a professional because I used to be a frequent coin roll hunter, therefore I know what silver looks like and can easily detect fakes.

The tissue test would work just fine since the outer cladding is 80% silver. Add me to the crowd that sees absolutely nothing wrong with this Ike

Of course it's silver plated... therefore a tissue test will not prove whether the coins are genuine or not. But I will have photos trying it out when I get home from school.

If this is a fake Ike, that's the best fake I have seen in a long time silverdollar2011, most fakes I encounter doesn't have a grain of silver in them.

But, a 40% silver Ike is worth almost $11 today melt price, so I can't rule out counterfeiters not wanting to make some real cash out of it.

with the general consensus on the Ike--I don't see anything tangible but a genuine dollar here.
Imo, the die tooling and technology it would take to fake an Ike that well just wouldn't be cost-effective.

Also, just buy from PROV OR APMEX for the love of pmz verses shady ebay dealers out of Asia, and you will never have to worry about fake items ever again....

Sure you may find a deal, but here is a couple of sayings for you....

A bird in the hand is better then two in the bush....AND If something looks to good to be true BY ALL MEANS it most likely is, say 99 percent of the time....
