Hi all,

My local post found me a two loons coin at issue price. Just out of curiosity, how come there is very little hipe about this coin. Is this coin not worth adding to my collection? Is it overpriced even at issue price?
Rest in Peace

There was lots of hype - back in June!
The coins have been on back order since the first stock of them had gone out.
only recently, and the back orders getting filled. I expect mine next week.

I really liked this coin and actually ordered 3 from the mint. However, delay after delay and reports of production issues (paint problems) and the bloom fell off the rose. There was a lot of discussion when they first were announced.

I eventually accepted 2 and cancelled one a couple of weeks ago - just got tired of waiting and decided to use the money for the latest release.

They are commanding a slight premium on ebay and the coins really do present well, but this is one that left a bitter taste in my mouth. The dinos are the same for me. Still waiting - 6 months today and counting. I won't cancel them but I'm sure it will take me quite a while to appreciate them, if they ever are delivered.

To CC-Ottawa:

the same case for me with the Postal Office:
one week ago, wen I just came there to get some delivery, they offered me the "Two Loons" - sure for the issue price.
This coin I didn't buy from the beginning - do not like painted ones, but there, in the PO I just bought it.

It will be nice present to someone.

IMO, the hype for this coin is over, as Mint starts to fill up customers' orders.
2 months ago, people can easy selling this coin at $140-$150.

But it is still a nice coin for collection

Actually, I sold one recently for $150 on ebay that included free shipping. I ended up with a profit of $10 when you factor in the ebay/paypal fees.
The price for this coin has fallen like most coin prices dropped when all the hoarders get their coins. So, once the hype for the 5 coin penny set slow, expect lower prices for that set too.

Not much - 5 x 3gm (about $15-$20 at best) "melt value" isn't the selling point however. A nice attractive set, limited mintage, historical designs, and fine silver are it's selling points.

jsinger21, the hype was big months ago.
After the first coins came, paint issue were found on many many coins, more or less 50% of the coins had paint issues. The paint was chipping off the coin, missing colors on the edge of the coins, etc.
So first, just look carefully at the coin before buying it, (specially from ebay, ask/look for real picture before bidding) there is still some paint issue coins and CP are in some cases selling them anyway. I personally saw few of them in different CP. Told to the clerk there, some removed it from sale, but some just told me that they will sell it that way (pretty bad)!

Now there is speculation on how much will be sent back to RCM and if RCM will remint them, and how much. For sure, many of them will not be returned to RCM (bought from dealers, ebay, etc.)

I found 4 in my Canada Post office today ... I already bought one from ebay for 160, which was a pretty nice deal at the time ... Funny how this coin isn't really of interest for anyone :)

I just canceled all my 3 coins today. I believe the previous batch with peeling issue has already damaged its market value even though the mint manages to deliver the 2nd batch without problem (hopefully).

one of the PO that I visited last week has 3 coins. two of them still have the paint issue. They said they just received them.
Therefore, I guess those 3 coins are from the 2nd batch.
Some of them still have the same issue.

What am I looking for regarding this paint issue? Does someone have a picture they can post? Any little bit will be helpful.

Unless someone have the that error coin in hand. I think people wouldn't buy it when they see the "Paint issue" coin at the POs.

Who knows...
maybe after the hype will over and everyone will receive their coins, someone will decide to sell the coins with "Paint issue" as "Rare error" coins. One will start - others will continue.
And we will want both of them as "set" - Perfect and Error

@jsinger21.

I just found one image about the "Paint Issue" of the Two Loons coin for you.
Look at the triangle pattern at the edge of the coin.
