I just stumbled across this on the FAQ page of mint.ca"If an item is awaiting stock, does that mean it is no longer available? No. When an item is shown as "Awaiting stock" this means that it is on backorder. Items on backorder are normally re-stocked within 2 to 4 weeks." That has not been my experience. I've only noticed maybe one or two coins that were awaiting stocking and then became available again. I also don't know what they mean by "backorder". I have two coins on order from April 2nd. I received an e-mail this week telling me that the Dino is 'processing' and the Rose Grosbeak is "backordered". The result is the same from my perspective and they are both listed as sold out on the website. So based on the mint's definition of "awaiting stock", the following will become available again : 5 penny set 5 oz penny 1/25th gold penny Gof7 Carmichael and Lismer 25th anny loon $15 Lunar Lotus Pink Niobium etc. etc. Anyone believe that?

You can try countless times to call in and it won't be available. But "Awaiting stock" has a slim chance of availability (via phone) whereas "Sold out" actually means sold out.

They should update a new definition for the term.

I heard that Awaiting stock means that there's a chance that someone might cancel their order. The orders are still in the "new" stage. Once all the orders are in "processing" stage, then it would change to "sold out". The 5 coin Penny Set is in "awaiting stock", it means that some orders are still in the "new" status stage.

I've called in to the RCM and asked about the 5 coins silver penny set since it's saying "awaiting stock" and was answer that it was sold out.... they should/will change the term (the statement is more of her opinion than fact).... the actual reason for it not showing as sold out was because people "can still buy them", ie: local Canadian can still get them from the Post Office so it's technically not "sold out" yet (ie: when it's sold out, you can't get them from the government, I guess)

^^^ But the post office is sold out too. I went to order from the post office and they said, sorry, sold out. Another problem with your theory is how about all those coins saying sold out at the mint but they could be still found in local post offices. Like the Varley, Lismer, 1812 silver proof, grosbeak coins, royal wedding, diamond jubilee, etc. Too many to mention but some of them are in post offices for more than a year. If we following your reasoning all of these coins would be still showing the status of "awaiting Stock". They are technically "not sold out" because you can still get it from the post office.

Thanks for the information. That kind of solves all my " what ifs " I had for a long time

The Lismer Group of Seven coin is back for sale last night on mint.ca. I know that a number of them were for sale at Canada Post outlets even when the mint said awaiting stock.

Less than 90 Lismers. Fine Silver 25th Anniversary loon came back too. Less than 60. Wonder where these coins are coming from - Canada Post returns? (CP didn't sell out the Titanic collector set, and then RCM started selling them... maybe CP is sending stock back to RCM to sell? Just a theory)

It may have something to do with the RCM's order management system. For the first time in many months, my account is showing accurate order status information and has been updated instantly when I have placed recent orders. Maybe the RCM has finally turned the corner regarding the many systems issues it has faced over the past couple of years. If so, inventory management is likely much more accurate and "forgotten" coins in inventory are now being made available. Just a "hopeful" thought... @CC-Ottawa: Thanks for the heads up re: the 25th Anniversary Loon, it was a coin that I didn't originally order but then wished I had when I saw actual pictures of it (vs. the RCM artist rendering). Now that situation has been rectified!

on the 25th Anny. I ordered one from RCM. When it arrived, I saw how nice and unique the finish was so I wanted another. Ended up doing a hard target search of POs and dealers before finding it at issue. PS - it's back to 'awaiting stock' now.
