i have purchased several quality high AU detailed coins with rim damage for 30% of the FMV due to the "damage". I do not like cleaned or scratched if I can avoid it. The surface detail overall becomes much more important to me when deciding on a type coin for the album.

that's the general idea I get when looking at prevous auctions...ppl don't like scratched or cleaned coins, and rather buy a lower graded coin over a detailed coin of a higher grade. I serioulsy hope my AU scratched won't go for 30% of a non-detailed coin...

I would rather have a lower grade coin over a details coin as well. I never buy problem coins, but I think if I had to choose scratches or improper cleaning, it would depend on the eye appeal of both. Scratches can be deep and ugly, and cleanings can look rough and nasty. For someone who doesn't mind scratches, I think they would love your coin, they aren't that crazy to me. Can't wait to see how this plays out though.

Yeah, I'm getting more and more pleased with the auction. But would like even more of course in order to get some coins I have high up on my wish list.

You really have to have patience when dealing with HA.com. I sent in the coin mid November, and will get the money by late Feb. So no quick profit to say the least...

Got the catalogues from heritage today. Didn't know they sent them out to ppl who cosigned with them.
There's alot to drool over in there. And alot more fun to have them on print than on the screen..

Getting excited...or more like, been excited since christmas:P
Anyways...7PM CET next thursday, and my coin is number 6 in that session...

Hmmm. Let me find out how I might go about it, and perhaps I can attend the auction. If you have texting ability on your cellphone, I could provide you results within ten seconds of the auction's end. You are, however, six hours ahead of me so that would be after Midnight.

the session starts at 1PM EST, so it's 7PM Central european time (CET).

I thought the auction would be streamed live online, or am I completely wrong?

Ah. I had misinterpreted your time expression, and thought you were referring to the evening session. I honestly do not know if it's being streamed; you might want to throw your consignment advisor an email.

epikur ... please allow me to clarify the Heritage Auction methods for selling your coin ...

Your lovely coin is listed as Lot #4663 in the January FUN auction ... and as you noted above it is shown on page 261 of the Heritage printed catalog for Session 3.

Heritage will hold 9 auctions at the FUN show ... each listed in the catalog as a 'session' ... the initial 6 sessions are open to internet (advance) bidding as well as live floor aution bidding.

All internet bidding closes at 10pm EST (USA) the night before the floor session ... the leading internet bid is offered as the opening bid at the live floor auction the next day ... in this case Orlando Florida.

Your 1916-D dime is lot #6 in the floor auction portion of Session #3 ... proceeded in the auction catalog by 5 other 1916-D ... 4 of which are in 'details' holders except the single PCGS VF35/CAC coin.

Here is how it will go ... internet bids will be accepted until 10pm (EST, USA) on Wednesday January 9th.

Whatever that high bid will be the opening bid at the 'live' session starting at 1pm Thursday 1/10 (EST, USA) the next day.

Heritage typically auctions 6 to 10 coins per minute during their live floor auctions ... so your final price will be known by 1:02pm (EST, USA).

You can participate if you wish by signing in for "Heritage Live" ... that will require a registration and credit card.

Trust that many of us are following this lovely coin ... and wishing for you the best price possible.

Hoping my comments above offer some level of support for you to understand the mechanics of the upcoming auction.

Best,

David

Less than 24 hrs to go...

I'm neck in neck with a PCGS VF35 1916-D right now.

Which one do you think will get the highest bid?

Even though your coin is listed as "scratches", I think it looks very nice. I would pick that one over the the other coin.

Just out of curiosity, what does the "CAC" sticker represent on the other coin?

Thanks.

hmm...I was getting my hope up a little too high.

No bidders at all during the auction, so it sold for $3750

If you didn't get any bids, how did it sell for $3750? Just curious on how that works.

Thanks.
