Would rather have seen the Asian packaging sold here too but I would bet that the 100,000 coins minted for the Asian market were shipped there for packaging locally. It would make no sense for the Mint to package them in Canada and incur the cost to ship the boxes to Singapore. If that assumption is true, then the Asian style packaging never came to Canada and thus, the option here was to stick them in a plain maroon wrapper at a discounted price. Disappointing but not the first time that coins and/or alternative packages have existed in the Asian market. I suspect that is a result of more competition in that market. If the RCM wants to compete with mints located closer to Asia, then they have to provide more sizzle. Again, very disappointing.

Thanks CC-Ottawa. I guess you are right. I will order from APMEX then. Woa, just visit their site and see the Rhododendron Flower Crystal Dewdrops for only $99. Lower than mint issue price.

@Bibo: they only have the Canadian Version. According to one of the staff there, she said the coin was specially ordered for one client in Singapore and the Mint just minted extra.

Quote: I think it's almost $20 more than North American version. unfortunately no. Remember last year's dragon with a golden ring around the coin? you can get it in China for RMB399. which is around CAD66... http://www.360buy.com/tuan/10387217-648356.html

@rockdaddy: I think you misunderstood me or I wasn't being too clear. The link I gave for the APMEX is the singapore version. Quote: btw, I was at the boutique earlier and they don't have this snake. This is only sell online only. I stand corrected, they do have this at the mint boutique This was refering to the RCM Mint boutique. When I first visit them 2 weeks ago, they told me they don't have the snake because it is for online purchase only. But when I went last week, they have it at the boutique. when I asked them how come the mint don't have the asian version with the nice box and packaging, the person goes on to tell that the snake was originally made for the singapore order only but they decided to mint extra to sell it in Canada.

@lostword. Thanks for the info. But I just don't trust in what the Rep said. I browsed the Singapore Mint website last night and did not see this snake coin with the nice package as shown on APMEX.

BiBo, I agree that it is best to be sceptical of any statement starting with "my mint rep told me...." mainly because the Mint reps are customer service agents (ie. sales people). They are not well informed about decisions made in corporate offices and they often are just giving customers an answer to appease them. Not their fault, that is just part of the job. That said, the link to the Singapore issue is on the first page of this thread and while it doesn't show the inside of the box or the RCM shopping bag, it does appear to be the same 'nice' packaging that has been seen elsewhere. Singapore Gold Coins has exclusive distribution of this coin in Asia so I think it's safe to assume that the APMEX offering, including the gift bag, came from them. http://www.sgcoins.com/v-1650-1.html
