It's been a busy month for me. Because I am a caregiver for my wife and I'm spending too much time at home, I think I have gone way overboard in my buying of Ancients. Some I have shared while others I will be sharing in the near future. For this Smackdown I have chosen the following two coins: Coin #1 Purchased Purchased 10/19/2012 on ebay for $38.77 plus $5 shipping. Roman Republic Denarius M. Carboi, Cr276/1 Struck 122 BC OBV: Helmeted head of Roma right, laurel branch behind, X below chin REV: Jupiter driving quadriga right holding thunderbolt & eagle tipped scepter, M CARBO below horses, ROMA in ex. 3.21g, 18mm Coin #2: Purchased 10/25/2012 on ebay for $11.06 plus $4 shipping Greek, Mesembria Thrace AE 14, SNGBMC 274, struck 400-350 BC OBV: Crested Corinthian helmet facing REV: META between four spokes of wheel 1.80g, 14.35mm

Not to worry. If you keep collecting you'll end up with a lot of coins. One more month and I'll have a year of ancient coin collecting. I have around 70 attributed coins during this time.

Wow, Bing => you have definitely branched-out from your Roman world ... => I love your two coins ... and ummm, a Roman Republic and your Greek-o'-Roni!! => wow ... I think that I have rubbed-off on you a wee bit, ya dawg!! ... wonderful coins, my Roman friend! Bing => I'm sorry that I didn't acknowledge your wife's condition (NOTE => I don't know what your wife's condtion is, but I certainly hope that you have it under control) ... I hope that things are "good-enough" and that you are managing (Wow, health is under-rated) ... God-speed

augustus1 => ummm, I'm sorry, but geeesh => why do we have to wait until Wednesday? ... when it is obvious that everybody has already submitted their entries? ...
Hey, I like you (a lot) ... but we should definitely make a SMACKDOWN standard => 2-3 days entry, and 1-2 days voting, otherwise it becomes soooooooo boring!

Hey Jerry, I happen to agree with you. Too much time for a Smackdown.
Also, thanks to all for the sentiments regarding my wife. She has been ill for about 14 or 15 months, so I've had to curtail some of my business trips this past year. I am taking her to the Dept of Neuro-surgery at the University of Florida this next week. It seems no one around here is able to help her out of the pain she has been in. Keep her in your prayers (if you are spiritual) or just keep your fingers crossed that they can find something to help her.
Yes, Jerry, I think some of you has rubbed off on me. I have always liked the Greek coins. I am just more comfortable with Roman coins. I will be posting a new coin soon, that will explain my frustration with Greek coinage.
I wonder if I shouldn't just change my CCF ID to Bing. Hmmm, BTW Jerry is my nickname for steve6x. He's like Jerry Lewis and I'm suppose to be like Bing Crosby (don't I wish).

JW, I pray that your wife will get well.
I also agree that 2-3 days is long enough for entries.

Some want Smackdowns to be short. So, win and set your own rules! I wanted to give newbies a chance to buy something in the next few days that they could submit. It is a way to level the playing field. If you want to show a coin, do so -- it needn't be in a Smackdown. If no one, in the next few days, submits a coin they just bought, I will agree the longer submission interval was not successful. If I ever win again, my next window will be shorter. I would not have chosen such a long window if the only submissions were to be coins already owned -- but those short time-intervals favor collectors like me and Dionysos (I think) with more years in the game.
