Those of you not living in the Eastern US might notice some of us dropping out for a few days if predictions for Hurricane Sandy prove accurate and we lose power (for a week?) over a large area. I had plans for a coin show this Friday and hope at least that hotel has power but we will not know details of this weather until it is over.

Good luck Doug (and others who are in the path of this monster).

We, fortunately, should only have the left-overs

"Take care" ...

Man, I usually envy you folks that live on the West and East coasts, but at the moment, the hurricane in the East and the earthquakes and potential for tidal-waves in the West don't seem very inviting!!

=> I hope that all of you take care, stay safe and manage to weather the storm ...

I lived in the North West of Australia for a number of years and had to endure many of these storms.
They are not fun at all and are dangerous and sometimes life threatening.
So stay safe or better still get well away while you can.
You can always come back and clean up the mess after this monster passes.
Look after yourselves and hunker down but please play it safe

And those of us in the path (Connecticut) will be here as long as possible.
Actually, the path matters very little as the storm is SO large that winds and rain will be widespread.
375,000 New Yorkers have been told to evacuate. New Haven, where I live, as well as a number of other cities and towns on the coast
have had mandatory evacuations in place since yesterday. I am 3 miles away from the coast but these is a river close by to me.
If the water covers I91 I am off to a friend's house where I shall be welcomed.
The mother of my neighbor called yesterday with the invite.
The daughter stopped by and gave me her son's cell phone "just in case."

Here is a map. The colored sections are possible flood areas. The oval is where I am.

Stocked up yesterday to be ok for three days. Now, my only question is:

"WHICH COINS DO I TAKE WITH ME!!"

We've been getting hit with the outer bands here in SE VA since 8 PM last night. Looks like she's drawing a bead on central NJ to come ashore. If you don't have an IPad or the cell towers are downed, it'll be a while before you'll be able to communicate after this storm dies. I've already lost power twice and have the generator standing by.

Sandy is going to be a very bad girl. Whoops, just lost a small tree in the back yard! I'm ever amazed how the some of the small hardwood trees just snap in this wind. Wow, I have a 150ft oak about 300 feet from the back of the house, wish you could see how it's swaying in the wind.

Hang on gang...this too shall pass.

I'm from Cape Cod but live in the Pacific Northwest now. Just got off the phone with a friend on the Cape, so far no rain but a lot of wind. They expect the worse sometime this evening as long as there is no flooding and a long time power outage they are use to bad storms. Good luck to everyone in the storms path.

The front of Sandy hit Toronto earlier... It's very rainy... They are thinking about canceling school... Before the main part even hits!
