Thought I'd update my original post with a recent upgrade to my octagonal Children's Founders Medal.

This one retains much more of it's original color and has a much more easily read Gutzon Borglum copyright notice/signature at the six o'clock position on the obverse.

Commems is awesome!!

Anyone else notice a similarity between the children's medal and the Norse commemorative medal?
Maybe they were struck at the same facility?

While both octagonal, the two medals were struck by different mints.

The Norse-American Centennial medal was struck by the US Mint under authority given to them by the US Congress and the President.

The Stone Mountain medal was a privately struck piece - it was struck by the firm of Whitehead & Hoag in New Jersey. If you look very closely, you can just make out the company name at the bottom of the medal's reverse.
