It looks like its been out in a flame, could be chemically caused. Dont take my word, there are better experts on coin toning and stuff, they'll weigh in. Heat will transfer to the other side very quickly and cause discoloration there too. Looks like the rim is not colored. look for polishing on it and the edges. Did you pay a premium for it?
