Just wanted to jump in here and cast a vote for Peace dollars.

I don't really collect either of the two. I do have some, but they just sit in little capsules.

I find the design of the Peace dollar to be more attractive and I think many Peace dollar dates are actually under-rated as far as rarity and value, while Morgans are generally over-priced.

Morgans do offer the advantage of being the most intricate (with all the VAMs) and largest collection out there out of any series there is. Putting together a date/mintmark/ major variety series could take forever.

I currently don't have the interest, but I may as I get older. I've actually noticed that very few YNs collect Morgans and very many older statesmen do. Generation gap? I'm not young anymore, but in the Coin World, I'm probably still young.

hesgut, if I had my guess, it's a money thing. For me, thirty bucks is a week's groceries. For some of the older folks here, thirty bucks is play money.

Do you mean younger people like Peace dollars and those of us, say, 50 and above, like Morgans?

I'm thinking Peace dollars are starting to catch on though. I went to the coin shop today to purchase another one, and they were sold out. He told me a few people had come in and between them bought them all out. They had plenty of Morgans though.

Next time I'm at the coin shop, I'll inquire about that. I know they, too, have more Morgans. But I was assuming that's because they trade better.

I'm on the Peace dollar side as well. I only buy them in EF for the silver but I always take Peace dollars over Morgans when they have them. One advantage at the LCS I go to is the PD's are always cheaper in this grade.

I think all in all I prefer the Peace dollar over the Morgan dollar...I have both, I have about 15 Morgans and 4 Peace dollars (All of which I inherited accept 4 of the Morgans which I keep separate... I sent my 1921 to NGC to be graded and came back AU details...I have many of the sought after bills and walking liberty this Double eagle that..I love all of them and of all the countries and all the modern coins...the Peace dollar is the most beautiful of the lot. What troubles me about collecting these coins, is that everything, mintage, minute conditional differences, grade, forgery, and the almost zero difference in coin as time progressed as driven me far from the Modern US collection. I have always thought the same about these coins, to hold them and feel the history of years past....coins... truly timeless....Now I aggressivley buy Ancient coins, the older and more silver the better...on an end note...THE Peace dollar IS THE SHIZNIT!
