Received my first piece of gold today in the mail. It's only a 1/10 gram Nadir assayed piece that I got for $5.01 but still shiny lol. I bid on it for kicks not really caring one way or the other but now that I have it I really want some larger pieces.
I'll be checking out some 1-10 gram pieces lol.

Congrats! My first gold piece was something I will always treasure. It's a 1/10th oumce Krugerrand, early 80's. The KR has always been the "king of coins" for me, so getting one, even fractional, was a big deal.
Save up, skip buying coins for a month, and get.yourself a.nice.gold piece. You won't regret it!

My first gold piece was one of ten Liberia gold coins- the 25 dollar piece which is 3/4 a gram of gold. I always say there a good buy at 40 to 70 depending on image on coin rarity. They are pure 24k as well.

It's about the size of my pinky nail and probably slightly thicker than a sheet of paper. So it's like a flake of gold that was pressed lol. I got it 10% below spot so I consider that a win. I'm going to start saving up and hopefully get a nice fractional gold eagle around Christmas.
This is actually in an assay card so I don't have to worry as much about sneezing and losing it lol.
It is .995 pure is that 22k?

22K would be .916
.995 x 24K = 23.88K an odd number

 That is a strange way to mark gold. At 5 dollars for a 1/10 gram, this would work out to 50 dollars per gram. The Kitco buy price for 24k is over 49 dollars per gram so that's really not a bad price to pay. Maybe you can get a discount on a bulk purchase  ? This would work out to 1558.36 per ounce. If they are only 23.8k instead of 24k, this would not reduce the value a lot. If I did my math correctly, the .2 missing karat would result in a 33.58 loss in a pure ounce value. At that price they are selling gold below market value. Am I missing something here? |

My first gold was about 5 small flakes I panned in northern California! t wasn't much but it gave me "gold fever". I have never gotten anymore gold "in the wild" but now have accumulated eleven ounces(plus 4 or 5 flakes),and I still have the fever!
