I know allot of people disagree with my opinion on this subject but I would rather have a dateless nickel than a problem nickel of any bvariety that had to be chemically altered to be able to tell what it was. Sure I have no "dateless Buffalo's" in my collection so they are both worthless to me but I would take the dateless over a chemically altered coin any day of the week

i got nic a date online.
And I somewhat agree with you Bryan. I would never have a chemically altered nickel in my collection, but I don't keep dateless buffs either. The only reason I would use nic a date is to find a valuable date, and potentially sell it for more than face value.

I'm caught between restoring the date and not.I think either way their not gonna be worth much because of the chemically restored date, and whose gonna want a dateless Buffalo nickel in any collection.I'll just have to buy better ones next time.

Well what are you going to do with the dateless nickels? If you arent going to keep them, they won't sell for much at all. I like restoring them because I am curious as to what the dates are. and I'm always hoping to find a good date.

Acid dated Buffalo nickels can get a very good price when they are key dates or overdates. It takes a coin that was worth a nickel and can increase the value quite a bit at times. I see nothing wrong with that.

I see nothing wrong with that. I completely agree with that. And even if it turns out to be a common date, it is actually really impressive watching the date appear before your eyes. I love using the stuff. It's incredible. Here's where I got mine: http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pro...t=177&page=2

I will never put a restored Buffalo nickel in my own collection. However, I have been fortunate to have had the budget to obtain every Buffalo nickel with great details as original. Restored buffalos do offer an opportunity to complete sets that may be out of reach for some collectors. That being said, I have always found it absurd that many individuals will pay more for good restored coins than AG or G original counterparts. The money these restored coins can sell for cannot be ignored. Of course, strictly Nic-a-date coins where only the date is brought back aren't worth much. The following picture is of an "expertly" restored 1918/7-D Buffalo nickel. Novice collectors probably wouldn't even be able to tell that it's been restored as the details are strong and color looks perfect.

that's correct. Buffalo nickels had the dates worn off much easier than other series of coins. Compare it to the older V nickels, which the dates didn't wear off as early.
