I am in Canada and was looking to get a sealed bag of wheat cents. I have a few questions. Are the bags really unsearched from the Mint? How much should I be paying for lets say 2500 cents? Are the bags full of dirty brown cents or is it possible to find some UNC or AU?
I doubt there are many sealed bags from the Mint itself...If you were to find one, I assume they would all be unc. The bags are probably just as unsurched as the unsearched bank rolls of wheats found on ebay, which is, very much searched.
The best way to buy wheat bags are from dealers with a store front that just sell what they bring in by the bag. Many will do this as they don't have the time to go through them or its just not cost effective. I buy them this way normally in 5000 count bags. Some are great others just OK. It just depends on what his customers are selling. I got two 1931-S cents in one bag so they are out there.
