Wow. HS $10 for below issue?
Colonial Acres $900 for 1913 or 1914. Did not expect to see that.

Colonial Acres $900 for 1913 or 1914. Did not expect to see that. Gold spot was over 1700$ when they were released last year...

CC, I'm not sure if your comment is sarcastic because of the eternal numis vs. bullion debate, but anyway, I usually explain a bit more my posts, but somebody knocked at my door so I justed posted.
Anyway, I usually fight the comments of bullion people complaining that us, numismatics, spend too much for this or other coins because they "only contains x amount of gold". But these ones are different IMO. Maybe it wasn't the case for everybody, but for these ones (5$ and 10$ HS) I personally calculated the amount of gold in there to justify the expense.
The 10$ is .484 oz of gold, at spot when they were released it was about 830$ of PM value, so 170$ of numismatic value. Considering this, I bought some (actually I bought the 5$, but the % are the same). For me, 170$ for numismatic value of this coin was reasonable so I bought. But now that the gold spot is much lower (1250$), the numismatic value of this coin is much higher. At the 1000$ issue price, the PM value is now 605$, so the numismatic value is 395$, which make a huge difference, and I would never pay this price for it.
This is my point of view. Obviously, this reasoning cannot be applied when the PM value is negligible... in this case, the PM value is higher than numismatic value, so it has to be considered.

I had all the Hoard hand-selected set except the $10 1913. I actually owned two of the $10 1912, and had considered selling one to get the 1913. Thanks CC-Ottawa for letting me know about Colonial Acres sale. I just bought one and now my Bank of Canada hoard collection is complete. Colonials offer will be gone very soon since there were only 2 left after my order. This Bank of Canada set is beautiful and will always carry a nice premium.

I just bought one as well. I'm worried about purchasing this particular coin from them as I'm almost sure they've already picked out the nice ones.

I will retract that comment. I've never been let down by them in the past so I don't think I should worry.

Yeah there may be some bag marks etc. but then again, all the hand selected seem to be MS-62 or sometimes MS-63 by ICCS. Brian at ICCS told me that he went through the hoard and personally hand-selected for RCM. It would be shocking if Brian would grade any of the coins less than MS-62. However I seriously doubt we will get an MS-63 (unless they were overgraded by NGC or perhaps PCGS).

I have heard this rumour or confirmed fact that the RCM hired ICCS to go through these coins, why did they not just have them grade all the coins, and everyone would know what you are buying.

Then people might start arguing that their coins were intentionally misgraded/mislabeled -- bad press for both RCM and the TPG. Using blanket terms like HS and PHS along with such disclaimers saved the mint from such issues.

Sorry by hijacking the tread for one moment:
I enjoy to have 1912 and 1914 $5 coins (that actually the only gold coins in my collection), but I got bored with the standard black/maroon clamshell box.
Have a question: Does someone who has graded his PHS $5 coin(s) interesting to sell the wooden box only, that the coin originally came in?

I hadn't followed this thread from the beginning, but I wished I was able to get one of these beautiful coins! I am glad some got into the hands of collectors who truly appreciate them.
