The most obvious way to tell is if it is a date not issued for circulation but you find circulating.
Where there is no damage they are extremely reflective.
Very sharp square rims.

I should've kept this one long enough to take some proper photos.

Vg-8 save the very rare part for the ebay listing.

What was I thinking? Could have put it up in my ebay store as a One of a Kind. Never has a coin that was not meant for circulation graded so low ;)

I had a 1999 Loonie found in circulation so worn that you could hardly see the date. I should have kept it as it would probably have been a 'very rare' Good-8 at best :)

I love an honestly circulated coin.

Sorry 1967Canadapenny, I didn't hold on to it, went back into circulation. Keep your eyes open on your pocket change, it's out there somewhere.

My folks actually got some of the 50% Silver commemorative proof dollars from the 80's "in circulation", spent at their store at face value.

I found this one in the till at the store I work at a while back. It has a mintage of only 117318 as it was only available in mint sets.

I bought a 1988 $5 Platinum Maple that the seller found in circulation, got it as a dime. The average Joe knows little of numismatics.

I posted it with you in mind 1967canadianpenny.
It is listed on ebay for cheap, I usually list the not issued for circulation coins I find.

This is the first 1997 Loonie I have found. I got a quarter a while ago.

I found a 2000 loonie in change last year, and own a well-circulated example of a 1954 NSF penny...
