Saw this on ebay and it just does not look right to me. I am a novice and I don't know if this is the right place to post this. The T on Victoria, some of the letters look odd and the number 2 looks suspiciously low. Anyone here an expert on this? Here is a link (hope it works) http://www.ebay.com/itm/OLD-CANADIA...t_782wt_1397

Thanks. I am paranoid after having read about the Chinese forgeries. The good thing is that this seller has the 14-day return policy. I refuse to bid where sellers don't have a return policy, unless it is a slabbed coin perhaps.

That coin is at least an F-12. Maybe even F-15.

Regarding fakes-- I was going to collect the Chinese "Fatman " coin-- and read up on it for a couple of months--Got dvd's etc. There were so many varieties and good fakes it became more and more confusing. I had to give it up after reading an expert who had written a book about the coin. He said after 50 years, he did not know everything about this one coin. The Canadian Victorians are very safe to collect--very few fakes.

It appears real, also look at the "V: in Victoria, it's the RARE A/V variety. This would make the coin's value appr. $2,000.00. Glenn

Theft by deception.
A person commits theft if he obtains property of another by deception. A person deceives if he intentionally:
(1) Creates or reinforces a false impression, including false impressions as to law, value, intention, or other state of mind; but deception as to a person's intention to perform a promise shall not be inferred from the fact alone that he did not subsequently perform the promise; or
(2) Prevents another from acquiring information which would affect his judgment of a transaction; or
(3) Fails to correct a false impression which the deceiver previously created or reinforced, or which the deceiver knows to be influencing another to whom he stands in a fiduciary or confidential relationship; or
(4) Uses a credit card, charge plate, or any other instrument which purports to evidence an undertaking to pay for property or services delivered or rendered to or upon the order of a designated person or bearer (a) where such instrument has been stolen, forged, revoked, or canceled, or where for any other reason its use by the actor is unauthorized, or (b) where the actor does not have the intention and ability to meet all obligations to the issuer arising out of his use of the instrument.
The word deceive does not include falsity as to matters having no pecuniary significance, or statements unlikely to deceive ordinary persons in the group addressed.

Not a counterfeit. Not an A/V. No deception happening.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I just started collecting this year. It surprises me that there is so little written on individual coins other than on message boards. For example, has anyone ever written a comprehensive paper or book on Victorian Canadian quarters?

For a reference, you could get your hands on a 62nd Edition Charlton Standard Catalogue (ISBN: 9780889683280), which has a variety section in the back on Victorian 25-cent coins.

Thanks I'll check out that 62nd edition . Vic quarters are intriguing me. I am looking to first get all the dates (mostly done at low grades), then proceed to varieties and ultimately increase the overall grade of the collection.
