Show US coins depicting a Thunderbolt. The thunderbolt appears in Greek and Roman coins across the ages. They appear held by gods / deities / eagles / on altars / as mintmarks / in the field or even as the main part of the design. The other rules are as follows: 1) At most two (2) entries per member. 2) Voting: Vote for three in order of preference, Gold (3 pts), Silver (2 pts), Bronze (1 pt). 3) Host computes the vote totals and announces the winner. Host may enter but cannot win. Winner chooses next Smackdown subject and is the next host (However, he or she may choose to pass the honor to someone else). 4) You do not have to enter a coin to vote but please do try to enter something. 5) Number of golds will be the first tie breaker. If two coins have the same score and the same number of golds it will be the host's choice. 6) Enjoy. Entries are accepted from now until Saturday, December 8th, Midnight GMT. Voting will last two days until Monday December 11th at Midnight GMT (provided I am still awake). Edited by maridvnvm

Thought I had a wider choice of thunderbolts, but it look as if I currently had only one  Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt, Ptolemy III Euergetes Æ Oktobol (47mm, 83.04 g) Alexandreia mint. Phase 1. (246-222 BC). Obv.: Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right. Rev.: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; E between legs. Svoronos 446; Weiser 19-21 (Ptolemy II); SNG Copenhagen 142; Noeske 64 (Ptolemy II).  |

Numerian. The only one from this family extremely rare 2nd specimen known. obv. IMP NVMERIANVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right rev. IOVI VICTORI, Jupiter standing, head left, holding thunderbolt, eagle at feet to left Rome, KAB in exe.  |
