Collecting Strategy While Traveling (Colombia/South America)

Vesper Valued Member United States 112 Posts	Posted 12/06/2012 12:30 pm Hey everyone, I am not the most well versed collector and have only been collecting casually since I was a kid. This includes when I travel purchasing local current and outdated currency and coins. After the holidays this month I will be traveling in South American (mostly Colombia) for work/study. Does anyone have advice or prior experience with collecting while traveling abroad? Or maybe something special to look for specifically? Thanks for the help. New but learning! You don't want to buy something, then, when you try to take it home, find out that there is a law against taking it out of the country. You'll be out what you paid for it, at least, and might face prosecution. Some countries ban the export of artifacts older than some age, some allow their export only with a license, and some don't have restrictions. I don't know the specific local laws in Latin America, though. Report this Post to the Staff

Thanks for that tip. Although I'm not hugely into ancients; hopefully that will keep me out of trouble. In the past I have always purchased the outdated currency only from the last 150 years or so...
