Not to be a wet blanket, but the odds that some random kid is going to zero into one and pick it out, let alone recognize the S mint mark AND realize the significance is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy low. Better odds of hitting the lottery I think.
That aside, I got my shipment of stuff from the mint yesterday and the extra roll of ElYunque I ordered got placed on back order. So we shall see iffin I end up getting it or not.

Picked mine up on ebay for $4 (w/free shipping) for the set of 5. The only drawback could be that if you are really picky and like to see them in hand before buying to make sure they aren't full of bag/contact marks or anything like that you might not want to go that route, but mine were very nice and I don't think you can be too worried when your only spending $4 for 5 coins. I think a coin dealer would have them for around $4-6 too (if you have one nearby). |

Better odds of hitting the lottery I think. Really? I have been pulling unique coins out of pocket change since I was 7 years old , for over forty years. As I am sure most everyone on this site and the millions of collectors in this country have. My 8 and 11 year old would spot an S minted coin in pocket change or roll searching in a second. More young collectors and Dad/Mom and Son/Daughter collectors searching change than you think.  |

denco, I did the same. But you and I are the exception to the rule. First, we (I am presuming this is true of you too) had an education in collecting from a parent, so we were already there. So some random coin we saw was not the reason for us collecting. And I bet that's the case for most serious collectors. Second, and directly related to the first, that mint mark is the ONLY thing that is going to differentiate that S coin from the others. And unless that kid already knows to look for a mint mark, it is not going to be at all unique to him or her. Third half the current collectors out there don't even know they exist. The mint did virtually no advertising of these coins.
I don't say these things to deride putting the coins out there, I just don't see it as being terribly beneficial is all.

He studied the Quarters closely. "How can they be S?" he asked me. "Only Proofs are S mint!" "Not anymore" I replied.  |

I got all five of mine on ebay for about $3 total. Almost 3X face, but a lot cheaper than buying the rolls when I only wanted one. |

DNA, and my point exactly. He ALREADY knew the difference. AND he had no clue about these quarters.
BUT, cool dude! Another kid learning more about this hobby. THAT is an awesome thing.

I went into my local coin shop today he wanted to sale me P&D of each park for $1.25 per set.That is .625 per coin they are from the rolls never been in circulation. He said he sales them mail order all the time for $2.00 a pair.
