Here we go again, So I've been going through the 5000 plus Lincoln pennies that I bought last week and found another (yes, that makes two) altered 1914D. When I first laid eyes upon her it took my breath away. Upon a closer examination, it made me sick to my stomach. Obviously an altered 1944D where they even took the time to remove the VDB from the shoulder. Then the coin appears to have been recolored to help further mask the deception. You guys can now be the judge & jury. Should I impale this liar like I did the other altered 1914D or do you guys have a better idea? Keep it simple. I don't have access to any exotic tools. I do have drills and files but have no connections to GITMO . Currently in a holding cell. Edited by mds308 12/07/2012 11:20 am

A drilled hole above the date would be nice.

Any chance you could send it to me first to image it for the site? I'll gladly pay shipping.

LOL! I love the jail. Anybody remember the movie?
I don't think I would do anything with it...except, put in a coin saver plastic capsule and super glue the edges. Put a note inside, indicating this is a fake.

Actually, when you posted this, I was reminded of something funny I did as a kid. I remember the 1st time I saw in the Red Book where it says, "there is no VDB on a genuine 1914D penny." I read that as a young kid and could not understand if someone was trying to fool another person, why they would engrave a V.D.B up on top of Lincoln's shoulder. I guess my child's mine always thought of a shoulder as being the top of the shoulder.

You can tell that the '4' was altered a long while ago as, It's blended into the fields pretty nice. Quote: Any chance you can send it to me first to image it for the site? I say send it to Bobby so we can always see a photo of it for reference.

Keep it to use as an example of an altered date coin. Saw a 1932-D Washington the other day that was very similar... a silver quarter poorly altered.

That jail is the funniest thing I've see in a long while!! Considering the movie, shouldn't you let it escape through the sewage pipe?

Wow were my meds getting the best of me yesterday! What I meant to paraphrase the Red Book as saying was "There is no VDB on Lincoln's shoulder on a genuine 1914D"
