Another one found in the 5000 plus hoard. I believe this to be a pre strike lamination error. What are your thoughts. Thanks guys.

Not a stain. You can feel the ridge. It's recessed lower.

Also, if you look below the right wheat stalk the error forms a right angle. I don't think a stain from fluid or chemical would form this angle. Just a thought.

I'll try and get some more magnified images tonight.

Clearly the darker area is recessed. I doubt it was struck through because "TATE" and "RICA" look unaffected. My conclusion is lamination peel prior to strike.

Note on lamination: Yesterday I encountered a straight line lamination 1/16 inch wide,.05 inch deep and 120 inches in length.That's correct 10 feet long.

I also thought it was a stain but, with the close up photos, you can see the ridges on the coin.
