Quote:They can request ATB Quarters, but there's no guarantee the Fed will send them. I believe they can only request "Quarters", not ATB Quarters, so getting a shipment of ATB's is just the luck of the draw.

They're out there. Probably the reason you aren't seeing too many is there aren't that many minted in comparison to the State Quarters. Some states, like Maryland, Massachusetts, and Connecticut had mintages of over 600 million. Most other states averaged around 300 million. The mintages for the America the Beautiful series is right around 30-40 million each.

Another reason people aren't seeing as many ATB Quarters is the overeliance on paying small sums with debit cards instead of cash. I see about 3-4 a week now, they are becoming more common in California. If you want to enjoy the detail, do yourself a favor and buy a 5oz. coin from an AP reseller.

I really haven't been looking at the mintage figures (perhaps I should have) but if the counts that you're quoting are correct then I would expect to find that amassing a circulated collection will be quite a feat for me. Your statement of State Quarter mintage in comparison to ATB really made me take another look at them. The Northern Marianna release was the lowest State Quarter mintage with 35 million produced in Philadelphia alone. It's no wonder why that coin eluded me for so long. On the other hand, for 2010 and 2011 with the sole exception of Chickasaw all mintages were at the 30 million level for each mint. For some reason the mint created more than double the coins for this park than any other mintmarked coin. Needless to say, I was really suprised at the mintage count and here I was thinking that my lack of sightings was due to where I lived. This was a lesson well learned. Thanks. So yes I do believe that getting a circulated collection of this coin will be a feat in and of itself. Thank goodness I have already started but with counts like that I can well imagine holes in my collection already.

My expectations for a circulated collection of this series have already been thoroughly and completely dashed.

One interesting thing about ATB's is that the number of a particular design I find in circulation does not correlate to its mintage. Until last month, the Chickasaw was the design I had found the least of in circulation (despite its higher mintage). Even with the dozen+ Chicksaw's I've added since November 1st, I've found far more Grand Canyons and Yosemites, for example. Also more El Yunques & Chacos than Hawaii Volcanos (so far). Acadia is now my "least number found", which would seem to correlate to its lowest-mintage status (Acadia-D, that is, because here in Denver all but two of the several hundred ATB Quarters I've found are D's).

Here in Syracuse. I never get any in change so during the summer I got a box of quarters and all I got was 1 ATB out of 2000 quarters. i guess ATB are not too popular around here

I am finding a few of the "P" ATB's here in NW Florida in change. Have found a few rolls at local banks but they seem to be limited in numbers. Most of the time when I ask I'm told that they don't have any and haven't seen any. I think they are much nicer looking than State Quarters and I'm enjoying trying to put together a complete set. I'm having to pay a premium for the "S" ATBs.

Quote: I dont know why people dont like these? I'm not really aware of anyone not liking them, it's just for most people they simply aren't available. I don't have anything against them, I like them. And so far I have seen exactly two pieces a 2010 Hot Springs this past summer, and a 2010 Grand Canyon about a month ago. (I have seen exactly four territory quarters)

Armored car rolls (Loomis, Brinks) supplied to stores are probably why I get ATB Quarters in my change. In 2009, I noticed something interesting. The new LP1 Lincoln Cents were showing up in my change before any local banks had BU rolls. So I bought some Loomis rolls from grocery stores. I would regularly find one or two BU LP1's in a roll of mixed Cents. Apparently, Loomis would add the new LP1's into the "pile" before rolling them all. I just bought a roll of Loomis Quarters today, as a "re-test" of my theory. One BU Chaco Culture-D (and an AU Bicentennial) were included with all the well-circulated State and Eagle reverse Quarters.

I have been trying to complete a circulation set as well. While it is challenging, it is not too difficult. In the last 6 months, I have amassed 40% of the set. They're out there, you just got to be on the lookout.

Quote: chacos (the lowest mintage of all ATBs) True regarding their combined P & D total, but the lowest mintage variety is the Acadia-D at 21,606,000. One of which I got in my change yesterday. US Mint 2012 Production Figures
