I bought the 2007 baby silver loonie on it's own back in early 2011 got a great deal for it as well. My book shows I bought it for $37. I notice CA selling them with the CD for 160 plus tax and shipping. Back then my wife said the same thing silveroid.

If only I pulled the trigger on the wedding set. I wanted to but I recall they were selling for a few hundreds, but now they've really taken off.

@silveroid actually, I think my wife is a little bit like yours. she would prefer toys, diapers or anything more useful rather than either a rare coin or coin set.

let's be honest, it would have been totally all for me! :P I'm trying to have a collection that actually means something to me.

That sounds nice. So, this is also was the reason, that I finally bought that 2007 Silver Dollar, scarce it or not, but I'll keep it for my boy.

I genuinely wanted to silver baby dollar because I thought it was neat. I started collecting in 2010 at the time of the purchase I had no idea about the mintage number until I picked up a charlton at the end of 2011. At first I was hesitant on spending money on a book that just gave me mintage numbers. But looking back on it now that book has been very useful. I only updated to the 2014 recently.

It possible...one by one on ebay, selling $50 or $100 less then market price will still bring nice profit and will be demand for them.

@ yingyang how much was the issue price? Did you originally think they'd be valuable and decided to get 16? It shows a lot of faith in the sets. Was it the time you started the quit smoking adventure? It turned out rather well.

Wow $90 back in 07 that was a fair chunk of money to invest, not knowing the outcome. Today people complain if they cannot flip something for a quick $20 profit. It's immediately declared a flop. You had the patience to wait 6-7 yrs to get your return on investment and you were rewarded. This is my plan regarding the birds of Canada series coins. I buy 6 of the nice designs and just store them away. The initial investment is small and I'll let time do the work. Should it turn out the coins don't increase in value, I'll have some nice gifts when I need one, and at a reasonable price too

I think if a person is going to speculate, one should be prepared to wait a few yrs. this is the same strategy as buying stocks or other investment products. Nothing is over night it all takes time & patience. The cool thing is, as you waited on the sets, you had the pleasure of looking at them. This in itself has a value that cannot be measured! There is many ways of accessing value.

Pocket Change, your plan is good and clever.
But you also should realize, that there is possibility, that let's say after 7-10 years no one will be needed painted metal rounds.
but I didn't want to say by this, that you shouldn't buy multiple of them.

Btw, if sets, that yingyang bought, are sealed - he couldn't enjoy their contain. Unlike the single coins.
