2.5 million for the S mint for each design is still pretty low mintage. I'm still getting mine off ebay at a premium.

Someone at Littleton Coin finally checked ebay. You got them just in time, HOLLYWOOD! Back in January, even I was concerned that I might have overpaid for these 2012 Proof Sets, but recent auction finishes for 2012 Full Proof Sets (Clad and Silver) suggest otherwise.

Based on last Tuesday's Mint Sales figures, the USM has sold 1.35 M Unc. S White Mt. ATB Quarters. And, the USM continues to offer bags/rolls of the coins. Sales have almost reached last year's 1.4 for each of the four 2012 S Unc. ATB Quarters. Interesting !!

In my opinion, the typical mintage of 4 out of the 5 2012 "S" Unc. ATB Quarters of 1.4 M is about to be matched with the sales of the White Mt. "S" Unc. quarters. I suspect that the USM will to offer each 2013 "S" Unc. issue all year long as new 2013 issues are offered. Comments....

They will leave each "S-mint" coin available for sale for 1 year (for the day of its release)..... they want to maximize their revenue....
Until we have/see the final mintage of 2013-S coins, the 2012-S coins will not increase in value significantly.

I help out I. Coin shops, four days a week. Lately I have been asking customers, that are buying ATB Quarters, if they also want the "S" mint quarters also, so far none know what I am talking about, until I show them. Most of the time the customers say there is no place in their album/folder, so they don't want them. IMO the "S" mint quarters will not go up in price, like they should, until there are spots for them in albums. For me, I have a Dansco date set album for my ATB Quarters, "S" mint. It has only one spot for each quarter. For 2010, I put a set of silver "S" proof quarters. For 2011, I put a set of clad "S" proof quarter. The rest of the spots, from 2012 on, I will put "S" mint business strike quarters.

I wonder if any manufacturer would consider making albums or folders with slots for the S business coins. The mint may suddenly stop making them.

I am guessing the makers of the folders are holding off until they know the mint is seriously going to release these every year. So far the mint has done 1 1/2 years worth and could shut it down and not do another round of them, or they could be doing these early to the end... who really knows.
I have rolls of each coin from last year and bags and rolls of this years offerings and will keep buying them - since it is an odd one off type offering.

It doesn't hurt to put a few of each aside. Some member are putting some into circulation, which will generate interest.
When there are more interest and more people know about the S-mint circulated quarter, then both OSMS's question regarding album AND Doug58s' concern about the Mint suddenly stop will be address: Enough demand/interest will prompt the album maker to create spot for it & for the mint to continue issue these.
So, if we like the S-mint coins and want to push the issue, the best thing is to get more and more people to collect these, spread the words.....

I'm still on the fence on this one, leaning to one side. As an investment, I have my doubts. If you added up all the people serious enough about collecting the entire series, that number is a fraction of the total quantity minted. Not sure what that number is, but I'd feel safe to say that it's well under 50%. So there is plenty of supply for quite a while (intentionally ambiguous). The current situation, in my opinion, is that there is a smaller group of people sitting on larger quantities for speculation. And I do hope it's speculation, not a new trend in collecting. Moving from collecting individual coins to rolls and bags would be a burden. I shouldn't need a hand truck when I want to take out my collection to show someone. Still, I think I may pick up a few rolls just to be safe!
About the albums, I doubt that we'll see any changes. Preprinting the entire series was already way outside the comfort zone for the manufacturers. Remember the old folders? They'd only print up to the previous year and you had to hand write the rest. Glad they didn't do that. I can keep my handwriting neat for a four digit number and a letter, but that's about it.

I am not trying to convince anyone to stockpile these rolls.... hehehe (that would increase the final mintage).... I merely suggesting of getting at least 1 roll of each S-mint design. This will ensure you have enough supplies to fill in as many albums (average collectors have at least a few albums going) with the best coins possible, with some extras to trade and/or giving away. So I'm implying you all to break up the rolls pick/save the best, spend the rest.... as this is the best way to get more people to know & collect these and this will keep the ball moving. Note: No matter how rare a coin is, it is worthless if nobody want it. For example, even though the 1909-S VDB is the key to LWC series, its mintage is a lot higher than many other older coins such as Large Cent & 2-cents; however, it worth/command so much in $$$ because there are many more LWC collectors out there that need/want this coin than the mintage can supply (compare to collectors of Large Cent & 2-Cents, the LWC collectors are many more out there).... same thing can be seen in the 1931-S LWC.
