Besides the 2014 Day and Night set having the entire scene painted the recent coins didn't paint the whole coin but left the sky or water the natural silver color of the coin. Earlier years painted the entire scene. Does anyone know the year this changed? I've been checking out the Completed Listings on ebay and it looks like prices are creeping up again. I predict (and I'm not much for predictions...haha..I'll probably curse the whole lot of you!) that once the big US retailers run out of 2013s and they only are available on the secondary market I think we'll see a major price move upwards on all Elephants. I believe zee Germans would like to be selling the 2013 for $38-42 USD. Currently an Elephant (2013) costs about as much as a same year 2013 Panda. Some one on ebay bought a 2013 Elephant NGC 70 for $89.95 and 2014 NGC 70s are selling for $69. Sell all the remaining 2013 as fast as possible. I have my 20 so I'm good.

Finally after searching and searching I found the mintage numbers. This also helps explain some price points certain coins are sold at.
Somalia Elephant mintage numbers for 2009-2013. If you need a reputable US source to buy Elephants from I can recommend a few.
2013- 140k 2012- 80k 2011- 170k 2010- 120k 2009- 130k

Well I am glad you found us. I know a lot of people mock Somalia elephants and consider them as rounds but I have observed their prices for awhile and its clear they are the real deal and are just some beautiful coins.
I appreciate your contributions to this thread and it just makes it better and it will get better.
I think if we get a run down in the PM prices, these gold and silver elephants are worth picking up in the coming days.

Has anyone been charting these prices the supposed "live" prices for the somalia elephants, gold and silver?
I havent really looked closely, each day but the prices dont really seem to keeping up with the dips in the metals price.
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I think we should start plotting and charting these prices, keeping a register. All of us Somalia elephant fans would benefit.
I got of ideas and ambitious plans but with work and all I am stretched.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but when it comes to semi-numismatic coins they're not going fluctuate as much as pure bullion. Yes it will play a factor on large purchases where margins are thin for the dealers. I think the best price indicator for the Elephants is the Completed Listing section on ebay. Check out ebay Germany site while you at it to see all the demand. Prices keep going up, up and away! It won't be long until we see a 2005 break the $200 mark. It's almost there now.

Somalia Elephant mintage numbers: Link to third party website. The only mintage numbers we differ on is 2012. They may be right and I could be wrong. Won't be the last time nor the first. http://www.squidoo.com/somalian-african ... lver-coins

@yellow
thank you for posting those numbers and the link to that page!
I had a hunch some of these numbers were extremely low when I was looking at the older elephants. Thats one thing thats constant about coins, the price never lies about how desired they are.

To my fellow Somalia Elephant collectors, I have some good/bad news for you: I just got an email from a source regarding the Silver Elephant series:
For the 10th Anniversary of the "African Wildlife Series", the mint wil put together a 11 coin set (2004-2014). Limited to 500 sets worldwide. This set will be delivered in a wooden box with CoA. The 11 coin set will cost $1135, Incl shipping.
Anyone else find any better source for possible cheaper price?
May be we should create a group buy to negotiate a better pricing...... Anyone interested?

what is the source? Bavarian Mint? or a dealer? Are these coins remints or from someone's stack?
