@MontanaCMR maybe you should try some GOLD somalian elephants lol. I have some that have spots.. others that dont. It just varies I guess. The day and night colored sets, the official ones, are spectacular and some of the best colored bullion coins around. APMEX I see brought in another batch of 1/10 ounce gold coins and it appears they are nearly sold out.. AGAIN. GAWWWWWDDDD... I did not expect a 1/10 ounce coin to sell like that. Man I really hope they end up doing a wide range of gold bullion coins, 1/2, 1/4 etc. I am a buyer for sure.

I dont get the reasoning behind such small coins. NOT that I am criticizing these coins, as any coin that is a somalian elephant coin is excellent and should be available to the public :D

Yup,
Making such small coins (1/2 gram) almost seems like a challenge for the minters: Can we actually make coins that small that have a high degree of quality? So I wonder if some Germans during Ocktoberfest were drinking (excessively) and decided to challenge themselves. The smallest slabs I have are 13mm; the 1/2 gram is only 11mm.
I did note that the Somali Silver Proof fractional set came out this month, the Gold Proof set in May. At least we have a schedule for some of the Somalis. But I'm still hoping for a 2016 1 oz BU Silver monkey privy seal Somali (vice the Berlin privy).
Am relived that the coins are legal tender; know it wasn't a concern to you. To each his/her own.
And what is about coins being primariy a guy thing? At least percentage-wise. Never really thought about it until today.

Hey Andrew!
Well, if you looked at this thread early on, I did note they are legal tender so I was never ever concerned nor confused about this subject.
... and even if they werent, I could care less, they are beautifully made. Any one who hasn't bought these because they mistakenly thought they were just rounds has certainly lost out.
in any case, I just hope they open up the range on gold bullion coins to include different sizes.
I also hope they get off their butt and make a 1 oz proof gold somalian coin. That I would probably buy without waiting for auction...

Yup,
I must have missed your commment amongst the 25 pages of posting.. sorry
WRT the 1oz proof Somali gold, you should send an email or letter to them asking for them to produce it as a single issue. They already do a 1oz as part of the Proof fractional set, so shouldn't be any more trouble to stamp a few more, I imagine. You'd be surprised what happens to a company if you make a suggestion. They are probably sitting down trying to figure out what to mint that will sell; so you might be doing them a favor in their decision-making! Power to the [numismatic] people...

@Andrew its no worries! But I totally dug around in the Internet like a crazy fool and found lots of stuff. I did find those PDF files from years ago from the German dealer that carries these coins. I hope that threads like this and collectors who have a great like of this series like you and I and others, that by our taking about them, that dealers and mints take notice. I do think in time they will expand this range, they have almost every year been bringing out more and more styles and designs in gold and silver, and I am not talking about all the 3rd parties that also do variations of the somalian elephants. BTW, I got my day and night set for 2016, man I love the style of these official colored coins, its like a nice water colored painting. It would be great to see silver really tear into its yearly highs and I Am game for buying a roll of elephants and gorging on a kilo elephant coin. Heck I might buy several rolls of elephants at that point

I'm not counting on silver spiking (this year, anyway), although some articles show that silver mining is down so far this year (except Mexico, where they are increasing dramatically silver mining). But Russia is buying millions of ounces of gold; apparently using their shrinking sales of oil and gas to stock up on the precious metal. So I expect gold prices to go up this year an appreciable amount, with Russia stockpiling it in their reserves. It would be nice if would we be insulated from factors other than just gold and silver mining, but politics always screw things up.
Yup, I've noticed that we both like Somalis, but we have completely opposite tastes as to which ones to buy. At least we are not in direct competition with each other for the same Somalis!

@andrew
yea all of that is irrelevant to me. I make my living trading markets and the only thing that has put money in my back pocket is price action and the price action in silver has been thus far been constructive. If this continues, silver prices are going higher. With the element of time we will know more. Gold is up already and has been and should for the time being continue its climb. I am already paying up for my somalian gold elephants and I could care less. So long as the price of gold is going higher, I totally am comfortable.
haha I totally agree! However, it feels good to have another fellow somalian elephant collector here and thats always a great thing no matter how far apart our tastes are on this series!

Oh man yup. Once I saw the price action light it was like a eureka moment. So simple and so effective. Who cares about the who why when where etc. Just know what the 52-highs & lows are and if a high is broken, tested and holds boom. Same thing with the lows to signal it's time to pull out. It's so simple and so effective it should be illegal. As if that were possible lol

I am very happy to hear that. IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE. Granted there are some variables. But the one ABSOLUTE TRUTH, is stocks hitting yearly highs or ANY asset hitting yearly highs goes HIGHER. It may or may not doing it in a straight line but it all goes higher when it starts at the beginning of the move.
The EXACT same process happens on the way down. Yearly lows beget yearly lows. Period.
It has been this way since markets started trading over a hundred plus years ago.
I always laugh and mostly stay quiet then someone tells me this and that and why etc etc. It means nothing at the end of the day. The reasons ALWAYS come AFTER the move started. Most pick up on the move up or down AFTER it started. If they had only know price comes first before all, they could have been there as it started.
I find that because trading in many aspects is simple, (it really is difficult when it comes to controlling emotions and discipline because of the constant variables among other things) MOST people over complicate things. The vast majority of the public thinks there is come secret voodoo hoodoo and they think they must think about all these things to come to a logical conclusion.
Markets tho, do not work that way. Markets are illogical. There are too many forces at work.
anyways getting off topic here. Glad to hear tho you see the light. The sad part is price action has been talked about for DECADES. IT IS NOT NEW. Every single trader, whether you work at Goldman Sachs to a smaller prop desk and trades futures or currencies or equities, you always are taught you always pay attention to PRICE first over any fundamentals or news.

@machine20
please be sure to share your thoughts with us. It is so small... I LIKE my 1/10 ounce gold elephant... but its so small. I mean I know 1/10 ounce is small but still, I love the look of the 1 oz gold coin, side by side.
With this move in silver, I am pretty much set on getting my first EVER kilo elephant, which is going to be so cool. Then I'll get a roll as well. ... and no I am not stacking. I just am collecting my elephants in their various forums.
so far tho, my goal is on track for 2016.
