I'm not moderating this SD, but as far as I'm concerned we can wait to see if you can get an entry. In reality, however, it's up to BenByfield. Good luck

Jan1May - I'msure nobody minds waiting a bit before voting starts. Ill announce the start of voting formally tomorrow either a) after you post, before 9, or b) at 9. Hopefully you'll be able to get to the market by then! If you need a couple more hours then thats fine - the US members will be cosy in bed for a while and us UK guys can wait till later in the day.

At 9 what? If forum time then I'd be fine, if GMT then I probably won't get there in time but I suppose I could always try, if my local then I'd be still in bed... where I really should be because it's 3:30am here now

First coin...Feb, 2011 (one of about forty of this type I have now.) Latest coin ....Dec 29, 2012 (one of six I bought for $5 ea.) Doesn't really look like I've gotten any better does it, but I did manage to get a few nicer coins over the last year and a half. Learned a lot from you guys here at this forum.

GOLD- Winchild- Went from Romans to Indian Punch mark, shows a wide ranging interest in Ancient coinage, coming for a newer collector.
SILVER-Bing- Started out with a very historical coin, in the Pre-Ancientnoob era.
Bronze-TJ- A wonderful starter piece, the first coin could have been the crown jewel in many collections.
Lead- Chris I love the Arcadius, the best start like this...

Okay, so here are my two coins! Of course, there was no "last ancient of 2012" for me, so I took photos of my last pre-modern of 2012. Still a cool coin. I've lost (some of) the precise attribution in a browser crash, so this is what I could find and/or remember on short notice Coin #1... my first ancient, bought around 13:20 (local time - 4:20am forum time) Sat 5 Jan 2013, for 200 rubles (about $6.50) Valens (364-378 CE) Obverse: DN VALEN-S PF AVG, bust facing right Reverse: SECVRITAS REIPVBLICAE, Victory? advancing left, SMK[A?] in exergue Cyzicus mint; copper, uncertain denomination (17mm) And coin #2, my last non-modern of 2012... bought sometime in the first half of December (during preparation for Secret Santa), for 150 rubles (just under $5) Grand Prince Ivan IV of Moscow (1533-1587, Tsar of Russia since 1547) Post-reform denga (half kopeck*), 1535-1547, Moscow mint Obverse: horseman bearing sword** advancing right Reverse: ~/КНSЬ/BЕЛIК[I]/IBАН (translation: Grand Prince Ivan) Silver, 11x10mm, ~0.32g Kleshchinov-Grishin 43, as far as I can tell (not that this would tell you anything) *) well, for this particular period of time it might be more correct to say that a kopeck is a double denga **) also identified as a saber; I have no idea which is more likely, or if there's even a difference [EDIT: changed some Russian letters in legend transcription to identical English ones - the forum seems to have trouble with some of these]

GOLD - DavidUK, both quality coins and a 750 year age gap is impressive. SILVER - ValiantKnight, still impressed by the Theodahad coin, I want one! BRONZE - january1may, for sheer effort to participate and for being our newest ancient owner. Lots of great coins, I didn't expect it but this SD turned up a very interesting bunch of coins, sadly only three peoples can be picked, well done to all who entered. Thanks for running Ben
