I am not sure if it was a sign of the times or the fact that ANA will be here next month but the show was only half the size (close to 20 tables) than it normally it. I saw two Oregon commemoratives but they were harshly cleaned XF examples. He offered to sell them to me for $100 each but I passed.

It was interesting since all of the dealers stated that classic commemoratives are difficult to come by. Not only were Oregon examples non-existent, there were very few classic commemoratives at all. I saw one Bay Bridge (MS66 - slightly over graded IMHO), one Texas and several BTW and Carvers. But that was it. So either what they are saying is true or in this region, there is little interest for them so the dealers do not buy them as a rule.

I did manage to acquire a Wisconsin Territorial Centennial medal. I will post that when I get a chance on a different thread.

This was a first at a coin show: I left there and had only spent 1/3 of what I brought!

The hunt for my Oregon continues; next, ANA in May!

Surprised (disappointed) to hear your report of so few classic commemoratives on the bourse floor at your local show. It's not that unusual, however, based on my trips to my local shows. While I'm always able to find the most common issues in AU through MS-63, I almost never find a piece that would allow me to upgrade one of the coins in my current set.

I'm sure the ANA show will afford you plenty of opportunities to spend the money you "saved" at the recent show.

Here is to wishing you the best of searching fun at the ANA show for the lovely Oregon Trail that meets your collecting needs.

Agreed with commems that I rarely (if ever) find a coin at my local small shows that presents an upgrade possibility for my set ... or in fact a downgrade possibility for my circulated set.

Looking forward to enjoying via photo whatever you finally select.
