I agree it will be popular because it is something relatively affordable to most everyone and has appeal outside of the normal coin collecting community.

If I'm wrong, I'm out $9.45 (no tax here in the U.S.), no big deal. If it is popular then there is the upside.

No intention of selling either way so just forms another part of my collection.

it just amazes me how a sleave could be worth 10.00, the whole 2012 penny mintage is almost all hoarded. what will make these rolls special to future collectors is beyond me, but I hope the 20000 people will be rewarded.

$10 is not going to break the bank. If you buy a roll of regular pennies, the prices range from $4 to $10 anyway and you may need to pay postage.

Mint's web site says "The last million pennies ever distributed by the RCM....". "Distributed", not "Minted", maybe we are all just paying the premium for the special wrap and a serial number. Anyway 10$ isn't really that much so I caved in and ordered one roll.

some of us gave grief to Mr. Bromberg when he sold the same penny rolls in a special sleeve on the home shopping channel for 10.00, yet we are giving the RCM a pass. Its a 50 cents plus 1 cent sleeve marked up to 10 bucks.

Would not surprise me if the Mint or some other unscrupulous individual pulled the old drug dealer trick and filled the roll full of old pennies and only capped the roll with 2012 pennies. I mean how are you ever going to know. Are you going to risk opening the role. If you take the wrapper of its no longer worth $10. All the value is in the wrapper which can probably be duplicated on a color photo copier. How are you going to know if you are getting a real roll or a fake if you buy of ebay. I can see many fakes showing up on ebay if this sells for more than issue price.

Sometime I wonder. I got a roll of CFl loonie from Canada post coin exchange. Unfortunately, both end of the roll show the queen face. I didn't look at it till a few days later and hoping they give me the right roll. LoL

This is very unlikely as it is not just a standard, printed wrapper. Per the RCM: "Each special wrap roll is authenticated to be part of the last million units distributed with a serialized holographic label."

The RCM would not engage in such a practice. The negative fall-out from such an unethical practice would be immense. And what would the RCM have to gain from doing so? It would require more work on their part as it would require manual intervention in an otherwise fully automated operation - more work = less profit.

The RCM may struggle at times with certain aspects of its production and customer service, but it is not a devious, "evil empire" that is looking to cheat its customer base.

@commems

Holographic logos can be duplicated easily. What's to stop someone with foreign ties to say for example Hong Kong from duplicating these paper wrappers and issuing fake roles? Can't be don't you say, just look at all the fake coins out there now. Much easier to fake a wrapper and your profit margin is much higher. You can take 50 cents worth of coins and one dollar wrapper and flip it for probably over $10. That's a 600% profit. If you make 10,000 rolls you can make $100,000. Sell them in the US to dealers and the public. Who is to know.

As for the mint, are you going to be the one who opens your roll of pennies to disprove me? Be you won't do it? Bet nobody does.

I wonder if these special RCM rolls will be magnetic or non-magnetic or if there will be some of each.

We talk about paying $9.45 for the packaging on this product, but we are paying $21.05 for the packaging of the annual uncirculated set which, in recent years, contains only regular business strike coins. There should be equal acceptance (or disdain) for both.

To Dooby Rak:

I didn't plan to buy this roll, was stupid by buying the same roll (magnetic, not serialized) from Canadian Coins and Currency.

But...it will be nice to do such experiment.
I ready to do it, following your post, in case if you ready to "share" expenses.
Support CCF by $5, and I'll open $10 roll.
