I sent it into ANACS, it's coming back MS 61 DMPL . I do not understand, why such a low grade this is in better condition then my other 1880s and ANACS graded it MS 65. PCGS said it was cleaned lol.
I swear this should be ms65 DMPL minimum. I'm lost!! Am I that bad at grading?
I pretty much guess the grades exactly on most peoples coins especially Morgan's.

Unless I miss heard him on the phone lol. The only marks on this coin are at the bottom of the neck and one little ding over the eye which to me is MS65, I've had plenty of ms64's and this surpasses easily. Gonna have to see when the Buffalo convention show is on, if anyone is around would love to bring this piece along

I see an easy MS65 DMPL here. ANACS is clearly in the wrong here.

61!? What? That's crazy! That coin is basically blemish free! I mean a 61? From what I've seen 60's and 61's are covered in bag marks! Even 63's and 4's... I don't get it at all, could they have made a mistake? Well obviously they did, but I mean could they have told/posted the wrong grade? And possibly the right grade is on the slab? .... I'd call them... Send them the one they graded as 65 along with this one and see what they say... Lol... Be like "what gives?"

This is why I have little faith in grading company's...
Rest in Peace

OK, I've seen a few people post recently that ANACS is "conservative" when grading Morgans. This appears to overstep the theory.

HAd already submitted a discussion on the topic of 3P grading variation. Very little experience as a collector but wide variation in grading WITHIN a grade makes me wonder if the notion of an independent 3P can really provide coin to coin grading consistency I expected. WAAAAAY to much variation....so what am I missing. The idea sounds good but I dont see it working very well. I must admit it was (and is ) a crutch for me at the beginning .

I am surprised. The coin looks better than the grades assigned. The only reason that I can think of at this moment that may cause it to receive those grades from PCGS and ANACS is there was something the graders didn't like about the luster. I have submitted a few coins to PCGS and ANACS that were in other respects gem uncirculated but received disappointing grades because of the luster.

This is in my opinion an ultra DMPL, my other DMPL's don't compare to how reflective this coin is in hand . I wish I could show it someone. Actually once it's back I'm going to take it to Niagara coins n collectibles, He seems to have a very good eye even though he deals more Canadian coins. He actually thought my other 1880s should be a 66.
Frank I have felt exactly the same way as you but, only reason I am holdering them is for preservation, and to avoid tampering from my kids, my brother and myself kind of opened my dads 1889cc back in the day haha well I shouldn't be laughing but need to protect them but no with these grades

So I called ANACS, they took the coin down to the graders, they aren't going to change it they said there are little to no scratches, he reason why they took all the points off is for lack of luster. For one, How can you call a coin DMPL and say it is lacking luster , and 2 this is one of the shiniest pieces.
