The most I've spent so far is 326.00 for the 9 piece 1999 silver proof set, however I know I'll break that record especially when going after 1996 Prestige proof set.

For me the most was $129.00 for a high G to low F 1921-D Walker to complete my set.

The most I have ever spent was $205.00 Canadian for a 1871 P.E.I. specimen penny (like the one in ndgoflo's avatar) graded SP-60. It is worth around $1000.00 so was well worth it, and luckily I dont have to sell it any time soon.

$375 for a Seated Liberty dollar. Guess that is pretty paltry compared tp other here. I have individual coins that are worth three times that amount, but they were inherited.

I paid $504 for the 2006 Proof Gold Buffalo.
Paid $350 for a St. Gaudens Double Eagle.
My most expensive purchase when I was young was a BU 1900 $5 Gold Piece. Cost me under $30. Gold was $35 an ounce back then.

So far it's the Nelson Mandela Millennium Icons coin of 250 Somalian Shillings, largely silver, proof.. I managed to get it for £12.00 so I think this is still less than $25? However, I have bought LOTS of coins, all of them relatively cheap and usually "in bulk" to save on post of coins. I am yet to move up to the 'big league' and start buying some of the larger 'investment coins'....but just give it time :)

I have been trading silver and some gold for a number of years in order to buy four coins. Two coins have bee been purchased for less than $1000 but the two left may have been under $1000 when I started saving but both are now in the multiples of thousands. If I am really lucky I will be picking up a 1916D Merc in VF in August this will represent the most I have spent on a single coin and it will stay that way until I get enough funds to get my last MS 65 2 Cent coin the 1872

Let's just say, that PCGS PF62Cameo 1870 Seated dollar wasn't cheap. The good news is that coin don't like like a "2" either!

I have yet to break the $100 barrier for one coin. I guess that's one reason I'll remain a collector and not an investor ! I hope to talk my better half into letting me get a Saint (mid grade common date) as an investment, but it's going to be awhile before that happens.

I'm going to Baltimore Saturday, and unless I'm lucky my record will likely fall.

The most money I have spent on a single coin is US$90 for a James I Gunmoney halfcrown, May 1690.
The most money I have ever spent on a single purchase is $900. The coin shoppe offered me a notebook full of delicious pieces, book-price estimate $2600, so I figured about a third of that was worth it. Thank heavens for layaway. There's some Peruvian Reales coins, some of the old Ethiopian coins, and (my favourite) five pages of old Aussie predecimal silver.

When I graduated college and started working a few years back, I went a little crazy with my newfound income and bought an 1849-C AU-53 gold dollar for $1200. I haven't spent even half that much on a coin since then.
