The most I've ever spent on a coin to date was $175. Not a lot compared to what I intend to spend if I ever find the right 1885 and 1886 Liberty nickels. But in terms of dollars spent relative to dollars earned per month, there's no doubt that the 1912S Liberty nickel I bought in 1980 for $36 was my most costly coin. (Times change, and income sometimes increases!)

You all will laugh, but here it is! I spent $17 on a 2007 Silver Eagle. Besides that, my most pricey purchase would be $1.40 for an 1890's Indian cent. Most of my coins are from circulation, others have been inherited or purchased for less than a buck. Not bad for 16 years of collecting. -DP

I am not sure I am ready to confess. Will the truth set me free?

t360...the truth, will, indeed, set you free. It will not, however, pay off those credit card bills. Best wishes

$235 for my $2 1/2 indian gold piece! I am starting to set aside money for a 16-D, so this may change by year's end!

The most I've ever spent on a coin is $1,000 for an XF 3-legged Buffalo, the most valuable coin I own however, is a 1911-D $2 1/2 Gold Indian in XF-45 that I picked up for $575 a few years back.

$59 on a 2004 proof 2 onza. I have some coins on my wishlist around $200, but it's tough to go much higher on my $25-a-week budget.

For me it was an 1885 ms64dmpl Morgan with monster toning that I parted just over $5,000 for. Yup, about 25 times bid. Really reached for that one, but it was pretty special and I ended up selling it to the first person I offered it to. Image: 1885dmplobv.jpg56.6 KB

I hit the $1000 mark with a 1644-A short curl Louis XIV ecu. Exceptional condition and rarity made me do it. I had no choice. Really. George Sobin recorded only 76 for this date struck at the Paris Medal mint. It is a three year type, so it will always be in demand by French type collectors. Plus I have only found a few for sale in several years of looking. Still I can't believe I am into the hobby this deep. On the other hand, it is a drop in the bucket compared to what I am spending on my kids' college tuition.

I paid AU$120.0 for a year 2000, $1.00 'Victoria Cross' commemorative from the RAM. I justify this because it is half catalogue value. regards,

The most I have spent was $2500 on a VG- 1893 S Morgan that was moved right away. For the coins I currently have it would be $1050 on a 1861 $3 Gold for $1050.

So far I have three coins that I have spent $1000 apiece on. Interestingly all three of them have been 1793 chain cents. I also have two or three other large cents in the $600 - $950 range. The MOST I have spent was $1400 on a counterfeit PCGS slab. (Are my priorities messed up or what? A thousand dollars for a rare coin, and fourteen hundred dollars for a piece of counterfeit plastic.)
