The style is more crude and much less refined than those of the later issues. They are relatively scarce. The portrait hails somewhat back to Nerva.

i can finally get in, here's my trajan!   Trajan AE As. Struck 101-102 AD. Laureate head right, slight drapery on left shoulder / Victory advancing left, carrying inscribed shield. ric 434 rome mint

I have two Trajans. One really nice one and one really crappy one. :) Orichalcum Dupondius, A.D. 104-111, Rome, 27.7mm, 12.03g, 180°, RIC II 502. Obv: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P. Radiate, draped bust right. Rev: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI. Fortuna standing left, rudder in right with prow behind, cornucopia in left; S C in field.  AE As, A.D. 98-99, Rome, 26.8mm, 10.59g, 180°, RIC II 395. Obv: IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM P M. Laureate head right. Rev: TR POT COS II P P. victory advancing left, holding shield reading SPQR and palm; S C in field.

Its interesting to compare it to MartiVltori's Nerva directly above yours, I see exactly what you mean. OK, this coin is a pretty dirty fella, not as nice as echizento's. Hardly worth presenting. It's my only Trajan at this point so I'll show it anyway. It's been soaking in DW for about 2 mo. with an occasional brushing and shows minor progress. It's only value here may be to show the range of conditions ancient coins can be in.  Trajan AE Quadrans 15mm, 2.9g
