I've personally met collectors who at, 45, are just starting out in this hobby. I have also seen 20 year old collectors literally school folks twice their age with their knowledge.
True, we don't know this young mans financial situation, or how he obtained this collection either. If he is financially successful or he inherited this collection, good for him
If he chooses to share his collection on YouTube with the world, that's really his business.

Money is all relative. I'm sure we all own stuff that could make 3/4 of the world envious--those who have no idea what "disposable income" means. The guy has a lot of pride for his collection, which I can totally understand. I wouldn't be so flamboyant about it, partly for security reasons, but that's just me.

Um, you realize that the person you're addressing is old enough to be your grandfather, right? I'd at least wait until I were old enough to vote before starting to talk about "instinct"....

Sorry I just guessed. His username is Chris12018 and the video is by ChrisDotCalm, and I figured anyone with that size of collection and amount of knowledge is most likely on this forum. Also, when mysilveryears said that this "Chris" reminded him of someone, Chris12018 answered "You mean me?" so I guess it was the same Chris in the video.

Sorry Chris12018 and the real ChrisDotCalm. Bad guess.

Rachums, the Internet is chock full of these well-washed, invisible floor-to-ceiling windows which we think are open, and we only find out they aren't when we walk into them. Anybody who's never picked themselves up off the floor on the Internet hasn't browsed enough.

If you watch some other videos he has posted he seems he knows what he is talking about and is a serious collector. I wouldn't be so fast to judge how he has such a collection at such a young age. When I was in the military, there was a 17 year old kid who got his parents to sign for him to join. He spoke Arabic and English, received a 40k sign on bonus, went overseas for two years as an interpreter, and came home with a total of 176k in his bank account. He bought a car and a house outright and wasn't even old enough to drink. I'm not saying this kid is a army interpreter, but you never know.
I do not understand why people post their collections on you tube! I have a bunch of guns in my house, but that doesn't mean I would ever post my collection online. I don't have to be home for them to break in! I enjoy watching them, but I don't think it is very smart.
And also, I am extremely jealous of his kid wish I spent more money on coins when I was his age.

I don't see what Rachums107 did that was wrong other than misinterpreting a confusing post. I thought the same thing.

He did nothing "wrong." I'm not judging him, and he gets no prejudice going forward. The only thing I'd mention is that both he and the person he referred to participated in a thread where each revealed their actual ages....

If you're going to draw a conclusion in public, especially if it's couched in language which may be interpreted as being somewhat accusative, such conclusions must be based on fact, or at least the absence of evidence to the contrary. In this case, proof to the contrary is trivially easy to obtain; his conclusion wouldn't have stood up to five minutes' research.

And in a thread which can go wrong in a second, one which I and other Admins are watching like hawks, nothing short of intellectual rigor will be tolerated.

To me it does not matter How he aquired his collection, the fact that he seems proud of it I give him kudo's. I however, would probably not do a you tube video of it..but to each his own.

what would be nice is if he came on CCF and had some coin collecting discussions with us. I am sure he could contribute and in turn receive some expertise from the CCF family.

I noticed he joined CCF recently, but I was hoping he would stick around and converse with us.....and share the wonderful world of collecting, sharing, educating amongst friendly people as we all are here.

Hoping to see him around and sharing if he chooses to do so. If his presence was to solely promote his Video's then that's another story.

Just my opinion.

When someone posts a video or a bunch of photos of their collection I don't get why people have to question where the money came if the person is young in age. I, for one, really don't care how he financed his collection and I am certainly not jealous of it. Each person's financial situation is different and each person makes his/her own choices as to what to collect and the condition of the coins he/she chooses. From his narrative he sounds like he has quite a bit of numismatic knowledge and knows exactly what he wants with a plan on acquiring those things.

There's plenty out there, but I won't just buy things for the sake of buying them. Most of the thrill in coin collecting comes from collecting and not having IMO.

My primary issue with the video is I do believe he failed to realize that he has put himself and any other family member living in his house at risk by posting that video and also giving his Facebook identity. Facebook collects so much personal information on their users it would be fairly easy for a determined individual with criminal intentions to find where he lives.

Wow, I am amazed at the petty jealousy spouted all over this thread. I'm new to coin collecting/investing. I certainly hope I don't become like this.

If I did a video on my collection, I'd need to film it at the bank. In my vault. This video is an invitation to a future problem. I don't care how good your house safe is. A safe can be hauled away.

Some may consider this 'showing off' and others look at it as an education or entertainment. I have mixed reviews but I can admit it was fun to watch. Do you think the IRS was watching too? I'm not implying he's done anything wrong, I just think that he's taking a chance and increasing the odds of a future problem.

It's like winning the lottery. All of a sudden you have new friends and family members who come calling, looking for a handout. And then there are the ones who don't ask.

They probably have a couple 250,000 dollar cars in the garage as well. The thieves would probably have allot to choose from. I would guess they have security measures in place.

I include myself in this comment: we criticize this young man for his exhibitionism, yet we gladly watch it.
