It's better than holding a $20 bill, at least it could be worth $25-$35 in a year. You won't see a $20 bill sitting in a savings account do that. That's the way I look at it anyway.

If silver goes up to $100/ounce, they'll be worth $25 bullion (1/4 ounce!) if it doesn't.... they'll still be worth at least $20. I see no downside.
Also got mine in the mail today.

Clearly the RCM would not keep the series going if the metal value started approaching face value. That is the reason for every composition switch. It is the reason the penny is gone. It is the reason why the 5c-25c are now steel. But, there aren't many sensible arguments for $100 silver.

"There aren't many sensible arguments for $100 (per ounce) Silver" With Gold approaching $2000/per ounce.....
yup, there is. Historically, 1 ounce of silver was about 1/15 to 1/20th that of gold. a ratio that lasted about 18 centuries. In a 'bull market' which is what we have now, we are experiencing about 55:1 which puts Silver as being severely under valued (or alternatively, gold is over priced)

If silver gets that high, maybe they'll have to start a $50 for $50 coin exchange!

If silver moves past $50 / oz , I can see changes in this series , $20 for $20 becomes $20 face and sells for $50 + (look what $5 face maples and $10 face giftware list for), or it stays at $20 cost for a silver plated nickel/ zinc /steel core (who knows, maybe they are already , anybody cut one in half to check - may I suggest the magical reindeer )

West-Canuck The whole point of the 20 for 20 is you trade $20 for $20. They have plenty of coins that sell for more. 20 for 50 wouldn't makes sense for this kind of coin program. They would just do 50 for 50 or 100 for 100 or else it defeats the purpose of this kind of series. You can't compare maples or any other coins to things like this.

The argument that these are better than a $20 bill is invalid, as a $20 bill is legal currency, the $20 silver coins are not.

@Anjohl: Actually the $20 for $20's are legal Canadian currency, but as with all legal tender, stores/banks can just simply refuse to take it.... which is why no one (yes I know that I am exaggerating) excepts $100 or $50 bills (although it is getting better with the new notes).
