Hi All, I collect Egyptian and USA coins only but I have a friend who asked me to identify some ancient coins for him and sell them if they worth anything. I went to my dealer and he said that he is no expert in this type of coins and he referred me to another one to whom I went to day and he told me the following; (N.B. I will refer to the coins as Ancient coin number 1 and 2 etc as I dont know a name for any) 1- Ancient coin #1 is a fake coin and he will not buy 2- Ancient coin #2, 3 and 4 are worth $8 3- Before I leave he said if I can call my friend now and tell him the price, he will raise the price to $12.5 for the three coins!! I told him that I will see what will my friend say and call him back if he agrees to sell. I am at home right now and I left him about 4 hours ago, through wich I received two phone calls from him asking me if I have asked my friend or not yet Now I am suspicious about all what he told me, and I remembered that CCF has a forum for Ancient coins I know that here are the real experts who will really help me with these coins. Here are the scans of my friends coins: Ancient coin #1 Ancient coin #2 Ancient coin #3 Ancient coin #4

If you post the sizes of the coins it would help. Depending on the size of coin 4 it is worth much more than 12.50 probably at least $50.00 coin 2 is,nt bad and coin3 I don,t know about but would pay over 12.50 for it.

1,2 and 4 are coins from Ptolemaic Egypt.

coin #1 = 27mm coin #2 = 27mm coin #3 = average of 30mm coin #4 = about 34mm
by the way the dealer offered $12.5 as a total for the 3 coins and not for each

I would say the dealer was being honest with the offer. #1 is a worthless fake. The other three are worth more than $12.50 each in the US market but they should be cheaper in Egypt where they are found. They are not high grade so there will be some discount to the offer. #4 seems in better shape and might be worth double #2 and #3 but coins worth US$50 in the US can not be in high demand in their homeland. If his offer was $8 for all three together, that was not reasonable.

I dont have a digital scale at home but I have one at my work so I will be able to know tomorrow.
I see that you all agree that #1 is fake and the others are original but still the value is undecided yet. Coin #4 seems to be more important than the others!! Can anyone identify them for me please (i mean the dates, Emperor ... etc) besides the value
Thanks

Hi, suspect coin 4 is Sv1424 Ptolemy VI Æ 34mm Diobol. Struck 180-176 BC. Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right / PTOLEMAIOU BASILEWS, two eagles standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopiae before. Svoronos 1426, SNG Cop 305-7.
But I am only a beginner.

There is a shop at VCoins, some dealer from the UAE. He has tons of Ptolemy coins and so you can get an idea of how much they can be sold for worldwide.
