Hello:

I'm new to posting in the World section. Mostly, I have only ever collected in Canadian and some US. I have a lot coming in of some uncleaned Roman and since I have never had any before, I'm wondering if there is a suggested online database, grading and pricing guide?

Thanks,
Steve

Unfortunately, there are no price guides. Ancient coins is a different ballgame when it comes to prices. The dealers decide the prices and you look through inventories comparing prices. It works out well enough. Most of the dealers realize that a common coin won't sell if it's too expensive compared to others or the coin will sit there for a long time.

There is grading of course but isn't always used like they are for modern coins, it's also different. It goes up to XF (Extra Fine) and that's it. No AU, Proof, MS grades, etc.

Look through VCoins and ebay to figure out pricing.

Wildwinds is a good one-stop-shop for Roman coin identification. There are some prices given for some coins, but not all the coins in the Wildwinds database were gathered from ebay and other sale sites. There's also an excellent "partial inscription search" function; just type in the letters you can read and it tries to fill in the gaps.
