Since I first became interested in Roman History over 10 years ago, one of the first topics I studied were the Emperors of Rome. I found them to be fascinating and somewhat disturbing when I read many of their biographies.

When I started to collect Roman Coins, I immediately had a few favorites. Some were good emperors, while others were somewhat vice ridden or downright mad.

The top 5 Roman Emperors I collect are the following.

Antoninus Pius
Domitian
Claudius
Caracalla
Gallienus

I am curious to see what Roman Emperors others tend to collect?

Hadrian has to be popular with the Englih/Scottish since he spent a fair bit of time here building a wall so my first Roman coin was a denarius of Hadrian.

I am interested in aquiring Marcus Aurelius and his wife Faustina next though since that was a turbulant time for the Roman Empire when he brought back the black death with his armies. I think he was a fair leader, he found the coffers were empty and sold many of his own possessions and his wifes jewellery to add to the war funds. Even though that wasn't going to cover the wages of the troops its a politically sound move and shows he was willing to sacrifice.

I haven't gotten around to collecting the ones I really want to collect. I am mainly staying with Constantine for now, since it is a very affordable starting point. I would eventually like a nice selection of:
Probus - His neck hypnotizes me
Julius Caesar - The founder of the feast
Justinian - Technically Byzantine, but even though he was a shameless dirtbag and a coward he spent his life trying to rebuild the western empire, his wife was kind of like a modern day biker chick, and he was a rabid sports fan. I never get tired of the story of the blue and green teams and how he used their rivalry to trick rioters into attending their own massacre. Good stuff.

Initially it was a no-brainer => I wanted the 12 Emperors!! (and I still am trying to collect "nice" specimens of all twelve) ...

=> but ever since I discovered that there are actaully "Rarity Tables", I have been spending a lot more effort hunting-down the rulers that are on the rarer-side of the ol' table(s)!!

... oh, and I'm also spending 50% of my efforts chasing the Greek-side of the ancient Coin World (yah, maybe I'm spreading myself kinda thin, but I'm loving it!!)

5th century emperors (Eastern and Western) are my favorites, even though I have to stick to the cheaper, less rare ones for now:

Western:
Johannes
Valentinian III
Petronius Maximus
Avitus
Majorian
Libius Severus
Anthemius
Olybrius
Glycerius
Julius Nepos
Romulus Augustulus

Eastern:

Theodosius II
Marcian
Leo I
Leo II
Zeno

(Was looking for another thread when I found this one; not sure how I missed it in the first place )

I don't collect Roman per se, but have to admit when I find a Trajan, Hadrian, Nero, or Domitian, (somewhat in that order), I can be tempted.

I do collect Julian II since my son is named Julian. I tried to name him Julius to have an excuse, but wife said no dice. :(

Don't really have a favorite, just trying to get one coin from each.
