$60 basically means $59.50 for the wrapper... Even $9.50 is insane for a piece of paper with a hologram sticker.

You cannot readily buy 50 pennies for 50 cents anymore. It's a brave new world.

I am going to give people warning.. The hologram sticker is starting to peel off. It's dumb. You would think better glue can be used..

Whoever the mint's supplier is used the wrong adhesive obviously. Surprising that that they would not have tested this better. I'm pretty sure this isn't an easy fix either. You cannot just "add" adhesive to the back of the hologram to make it stick. You would have to clean off the old bad adhesive and manually apply a new stronger adhesive. One roll by one roll. The easier fix would be to reprint these with the proper adhesive already on the label (sticker). The challenge then becomes numbering them properly and accounting for the ones already distributed. Either way, I'm sure this is going to take some time for them to distribute any more rolls while they get this fixed. Big mistake, not easy to fix.

Easy fix would be applying an additional plastic wrap around it so that the sticker won't peel.

The problem was not the sticker adhesive. These are designed in such a way that if you try to remove the hologram it will destroy the sticker. This technology is predefined and you have to make your packaging work with the sticker. The problem was the paper used for the wrapper was not compatible. Agreed that there should have been more testing, or the least better engineering. I know as I have had to prep surfaces for adhesive. The surface always needs to be cleaned and sometimes requires a chemical activator that primes the surface. Most likely an adverse reaction to some chemical used in the printing process that left a slight residue on the paper.
I have not seen the rolls yet, is the paper glossy, very white or smooth?

You're right, they could do that but then they would have 2 different packages distributed. Will they pick the easier fix over the consistency of their packaging? Have they done something like that before?

Hi all. first time caller, long time listner.
What really grinds my gears is that I'm backordered on the penny roll when I'm a MC + I buy that roll even before it was on general offering on the website.... you get my drift...No idea how they work...no idea.... I'm going there this w-e as a bday gift and visit them, you better believe I'm gonna fire off questions about their integrity to their clients. That;s all I have for today...sorry for the rant. good day.

@ Dooby Rak: A rougher finish then your standard paper and light brown. (not smooth or glossy at all)
@ encana: Might as well pick up a roll while you are there. But I don't think anyone other then boutiques got these rolls in.

Is this how they are doing it? I see three possible problems here. 1) The paper 2) Sticker on printing (reaction of ink and glue) 3) Sticker over the seam Hard to say what the problem is. What side is it unsticking from, where the serial number is or the top of the sticker?

@ doobyrak. I haven't seen it yet but people are reporting their holograms are "popping" off. That is definitely an adhesive issue if that's the case. I'm in the label business and work with hundreds of different substrates and adhesives every week. There is definitely a permanent adhesive that would have worked with this application. The challenge is finding the right hologram facestock in conjunction with the proper adhesive for the application. This can be more tricky as there is a limited market for off the shelf hologram materials with varying adhesives. The paper in the rolls was undoubtedly printed on a flexo press with either U.V. or waterbased inks and varnish. Pretty standard for the proper permanent adhesive.
You can also add the contour of the roll to your list of issues doobyrak. For sure this needed to be an aggressive probably hot melt permanent adhesive which gives you immediate tack and no repositionability. They probably used an acrylic based adhesive that takes more time to "set up" and therefore would not adhere as well to a tight contour.

Have to agree with that also. Poor engineering either way and probably very little testing. I have seen this problem with other mint products (poor adhesive). This is what you get when you use the lowest bidder.
