I prefer 'real money'. Good conversation starter.

I collect World coins.
ANY silver coin that is not worth more than silver value is
junk silver.
That includes Australian as well as American coins.

That makes no sense as to why it's junk. It's not worth more than pure silver because it's an alloy. It's still worth how much silver it contains plus the copper value, plus the made up value people attribute to rarity.

90% is too American, I'd call it "circulated silver".

I agree with sel. Peronally never understood the aversion to the term "junk silver"...."A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"

My World junk silver collection has coins thay vary in fineness from .350 to .945. When they otherwise have no numismatic value by reason of damage or wear, 'junk' seems to be the most appropriate term.
If you had to add the cost of refining for the silver, the ASW value for pure silver equivalent, would be less than 50% spot for pure silver.

Makes no sense except that they are coins that only have 'addl value' due to their silver content. so junk to colletors. I don't think of them as junk at all.

I, the OP, have decided I like the name "90% silver coins" or "90%" for short. I have found a LCS who has the best prices in town, but often is sold out, so I ask if he has any "90%"

"Circulated silver" is the term I use if I'm dealing with a seller. The term "junk" just comes across as insulting their wares, IMHO.

"Hey, I want to buy some of your junk."
"Forget you buddy, shop elsewhere."

"Junk Silver" is catchy even though not correct.
