My dad has an old $2 bill with the serial number 1111711 in his collection. Does anyone know - rough idea - what sort of value it might have?

Not worth much more than face value unfortunately.

Oh sad :( For some reason I thought the interesting serial number might give it some value. Oh well - can't win them all :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I recently sold one not even half as interesting as this one for $26.00 on ebay. I'm sure yours would fetch more. Yours has a solid or near solid almost binary serial a collector would love this note I'm sure

True, there are always uninformed buyers on ebay, but in reality that bill isn't worth much more than face value.

That's good to know. I don't think he has any plan to sell it anytime soon - but it's nice to know that if he did want to he might get a little something for it on ebay. Thanks everyone!

ebay can be hit and miss depending on how bad someone would want that note. In my years of selling on ebay I've had it go both ways. I've sold bills/coins for 50X trends value and I have sold bills/coins and haven't even received one quarter of trends value.

I agree that some buyers are uninformed, but I also think that alot of has to due with supply and demand. All you need is just two collectors out there that would love to have this note as part of the collection who knows what it could go for if they got into a bidding war. Unfortunately the truth of the matter is that this bill in this condition is only worth face value but that doesn't mean you can't get a little more for.

When I purchase something for my collection, trends prices don't mean anything to me. If there's lots of them out there I can pick it up for a good price. If there is only one and I want it, I will pay for it and I'm an informed buyer. I just don't not hold myself to a 'trends' price.
