I agree for posting. The BM is a great day out and its something to be proud of that its free entry. The last time I was there they had some coins out to be handled in the money room. Cant remember seeing any more Carausius coins when I was there, the coins did seem spread out quite a bit though (doubtless only 1% on display too), maybe some more in the 'Roman Britain' room? (I think that was its name, huge room on the ground floor I think)

I really want to go back to the british museum - couldnt get much of a visit in because I had to get home.
That carausius looks like a close die match with mine. Thats fun!
A forum member here once spent a day in the coins and medals department - was it Sel?

The 'timepieces' rooms were equally good, some of the early mechanical movements are simply stunning. I was going to check out Coincraft across the road but didn't have the time which was really annoying, I would of ended up missing the train to Kings Cross.

Quote: The 'timepieces' rooms were equally good I agree, spent a lot of time looking at those too, beautiful. School children on trips usually ruin the Egyptian rooms but I prefer the Assyrian and Chinese stuff in the basement. Never been in Coincraft but often meant to - I bet they have some very 'touristy' prices

It was absolutely packed today, I had at least 5 people walk into me and also had a small toddler attack me with his map. I wish I went last Friday to be honest, would of been a little quieter.

Beautiful! It is always worth going to, and always something new to see, even if it is a statue that has been in place for centuries, always a pleasure to view. In December, I went to the BM, even I had the Flu, it was a good remedy to get out and go! Below are two photos by me of that Medallion of Carausius, and the accompanying photo of the reverse, with the enigmatic abbreviation of "I.N.P.C.D.A." in the exergue. Thanks to Guy de la Bedoyere ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_de_la_Bedoyere) we now know it is a quote from Virgil's Eclogues, IV.... Iam Nova Progenies Caelo Demittitur Alto (Now a new generation is let down from heaven above)
