I ask myself if I am in a similar position like him(have the means and access to mint products like him), knowing how profitable these penny rolls currently are, would I sell them to the public? Or would I take advantage to intercept them for personal gain? Very philosophical

@dooby_rak I had promised myself that I would not post on this forum but I really cant keep it in. From the beginning you've been trying to be sneaky and trying to discredit me. Here you again with another theory of yours, as I said and will say it again if you are a interested buyer I had welcomed you to come see it in person, but it looks like your goal is something else.

Dooby Rak, you could be an excellent Toronto Star reporter covering Rob Ford!

@Dooby Rak: The fact that the hologram is (or appears to be) slightly off alignment doesn't concern me at all. Several of my rolls had holograms that were not "perfect"... one roll had 2 holograms on it, and another had obvious signs that another hologram was pulled off of it. There are several circumstances in which labeling issues could have caused multiple labels to be added to rolls in the manufacturing process and then needed to be pulled off and replaced/realigned manually by Mint staff.

Even if he could pull the label off and re-affix it to another roll.... I don't see the benefit of doing that because it is the label itself that is more significant then the actual roll that its affixed to (not to mention that it would be fraud). So although I agree that it might be theoretically possible, I just don't see the point.

As far as how close the #'s are to the bottom... I haven't checked mine to closely, but I am sure that there will be some variation. Especially when you consider that this would be the last seal to enter the printer there may be some difference in tension/position.

Finally, the last reason why I have no doubts about the legitimacy of this item is because of how rare it is. Everyone (except me because I haven't had the time) will be checking the numbers on their rolls and not NO ONE else has reported the same number which (if this one was fraud) would be especially odd considering his roll is already at $3,000 on ebay. Also, ebay will keep a permanent record of the transaction, which means that if it were found to be fraudulent in the future there would always be a record of the transaction (sellers name, address, etc). I am so confident in this item that if I had an extra $3K then I would consider buying it at that price.

@Gwako

I will delete that post if you can answer me this? Why is the CTV article different than the sorry you told me? There may be a legitimate reason but you told me you obtained it from a dealer and the article gives the impression you are a collector who got lucky with the role the mint sent you.

I can tell you the reason you'll see movement like that is from the die cutting registration moving.
These are run off a roll, printed and then die cut right at the end with the matrix (material that is scrap around the label) being removed and rewound into rolls. The rolls of labels are then sent to the mint.
If there's movement (which there always is on a printing press) then the labels will not be in the exact same position.
To assume different positioning is a forgery is incorrect. It's part of the printing/finishing process.
I'll bet if you look at multiple rolls you'll see movement in many cases.
I looked at my 9 rolls and they all vary somewhat.

My roll from the Mint also have numbers close to the bottom.

The roll from Gwako looks legitimate to me.

@dooby rak - what post the one you send me a message apologizing that you were wrong in posting my private information, and now your talking a different stance on it.

Again I'm going to repeat myself you have zero interest in the product but yet you do what you do. I am a MC member and I did order one for myself and the same time I did order additional ones from my sources.

@wettld2 & Gwako

I was able to find an image of another high role that show the same pattern of the numbers drifting lower and to the right then I am willing to admit wrong and I will retract my previous post and I openly apologize.

I have 4 rolls so far with more to come. Two rolls are in the 500s, one is in the 1700s and one is in the 18000s.

The three lower numbers are printed significantly higher on the sticker than is the high number. It appears that this is just a printing issue.

@Dooby Rak: No problem at all. I think that it is important that anytime someone presents something rare that we "take it with a grain of salt". Thanks for looking into this further and providing evidence to support various positions on the subject.

I don't understand why the hoopla about how he got his hands on that roll. Who cares if he is a dealer or just a collector?
Just look at the 2013 Mongolia Argali. Was this coin ever available to the public for issue price?

It really doesn't take much to create a hologram like the one on this roll.

anyways good for the seller for getting $3000+ for this roll

as for the buyer, maybe they will be interested in my 2013 penny

And to think when I was picking out my roll, I was concerned about scratches and ugly tone marks on the outside pennies. The hologram # didn't mean much at first. The condition of the pennies doesn't seem to matter anymore...

Nobody has number 1 or 2012 yet? Or just waiting to see how number 20,000 goes for before coming out?
