Quote:Posted Today 2 Hrs 31 Min ago 2009 P&D MINT Lincoln Cent LOG CABIN PENNY TWO ROLL SET - That just means people are either afraid of opening the box or the fakes are that good. Easy label to fake. how would you even know if it was fake? Unless the label was printed on special paper like their money or with a special ink process its easy to fake. Edit. Don't some of these rolls have special pennies? Those are hard to fake. I did. My comment was how would you know if they were fake? The roll looks so easy to fake, how would you ever know? I would not be able to tell a real one from a fake. By the way did they use special pennies? I think the US rolls did not use common pennies like the last million rolls.

That's kinda my point, why would they bother making fake penny rolls.
Because they don't have to make any fake coins. No counterfeiting of currency is needed. Only stickers. Nothing has to involve China. China is the boogeyman for all these discussions, but this is much more likely to be home grown.

I still don't think people should be worried about buying counterfeits.

There are several ways of detecting fakes from the real thing. For example, genuine silver panda coins dated 2003 and later have diagonally reeded edges. If a panda coin dated 2003+ has a vertical reeded edge or a smooth/plain edge, then you know its fake. It's tough to spot counterfeit on ebay, easier with coin in hand. Some studies & cases have been presented in this area and more studies need to be done to help collectors spot the differences. I wonder if there are any articles/studies out there on how to spot hologram fakes?

Or buy straight from Gatewest on ebay! Who needs to see the product anymore? These boxes are for sale unopened (no telling what's inside or the condition of the rolls/coins!!). Who knows what number you'll get? Maybe roll #2012 or lucky #7777? Who knows what prize you'll get in the cracker jack box?!! ebay auction # 290873990067

It's like buying $400 worth of scratch and win tickets. Never know, one of those labels could be #1. I wouldn't take the risk, I'd open the box before selling.

Oh, he did at that. He made the buy it now $400. That's a sign of desperation. I bet his wife is forcing him to sell it.
"You spent how much on 10 rolls of pennies? Are you nuts?" I've seen this before.
