Hello all,

I am having trouble identifying the coin attached. Any help would be appreciated. It weighs 3.9 grams, and about 15/16's of an inch in diameter. Thanks a bunch.

Yeah I have no idea why it is doing that. I edited my post to show the links of the uploaded files. They still show as having HTTP links in them, but they are not invalid, in no way am I trying to link to anything at ebay. I got the links fixed in the original post!

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! Its hard to tell in the pictures - but the letters are M with F under it. What you sent me was for 8 reales. This coin is more in the range of a one real from what I can tell in terms of diameter and weight. Thanks though, this is the closest thing I have found so far.

This sent me on the right path! Thanks! The best thing I can come up with now is that it was made sometime between 1729-1732. I believe it is a 1 real made in the Mexico Mint and Francisco as the Assayer/Tester. I just cannot find any actual pictures to confirm that. If you see http://www.maravedis.net/felipe5_1_..._mejico.html towards the bottom you see the references to a 1 real M F. The pictures shown (from other testers) are the closest I can find. Also, the weight does not quite add up at 4 grams. A more precise measurement of the diameter shows 23.65 MM. Any additional help would greatly be appreciated!!

The diameter and weight of the coin are wrong for a 1 real or 2 real. It is overweight and over large for a 1 real - at a guess the coin has lost about 35% of its diameter so should be about 13mm for a 1 real and 18mm for a 2 real. Its even to large for a 4 real. Its weight should be a lot more. It doesn't compute as an actual coin - hopefully someone will tell me I am wrong.
