I was recently given the Blue Jay coin from the Birds of Canada series - it was the first time that I had seen any coin from the series in hand.
I thought the application of the colour was well done with a nice dimensional appearance.
My question:
Have all the coins in the series had the same "look?"
OR
Has the process used to colour the coins been improved over the life of the series with the more recent coins having a better "look" than the earlier coins?
Thanks in advance for your input.

It seems like some of the earlier birds like the Northern Cardinal (2008) and the hummingbird (2007) look very pixelated when looked at from up close. While others like the goldifnch (2010) and the chickadee(2011) look awesome. It does appear that the more recent coins look much better. This series has to be my favorite by far!

It has definitely improved. The nuthatch in particular looks like it was printed on an inkjet printer, and it's flat too, so it looked more like a sticker

That being said, the older ones are much more expensive these days.

Value of a few them keep increasing. Anyone think the nuthatch will be worth 700-1000 as more in the series are released?

Like the others said, the printing got better as the series went on. The older ones didn't sell out back then and got remelted which is why they are more expensive. I don't see the grosbeaks doing that well although the robin looks pretty nice in the pictures.
I find it worthwhile to pick up the older birds if I find a good price for them. A couple months back, I picked up a goldfinch for $70. A good day.

Totally agree with Sunfish about the Black-capped Chickadee--a very well done coin. I agree somewhat less about the American Goldfinch. It's very attractive, but it isn't as lifelike as some of the others. Totally agree about the Northern Cardinal--the poorest in the series at least from the point of realistic appearance--and somewhat agree about the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, too, although I admit I do like it. But I have to disagree with rekun's comments about the nuthatch. I love the detail on the coin and the bird is probably the most realistic looking of the entire series. And with the prices it's fetching, looks like I'm not the only one who likes it!

I do not know if "never end" is good or bad.
Some collectors might get bored cause it is too long. Ofcourse some are happy.
I hope Mint will do it for all the birds that exist in Canada.
